Since there's not an available replacement wiring harness for these cars. I Just wanted to know if anyone has taken on the task of installing a 14 circuit painful (painless) universal wiring harness or another brands universal wiring harness into a late 80's fox and also integrated it into the factory connection for the cluster, column and so on?

Thanks,

Honestly the Fox stuff isn't too hard. I have the dash out of Tinzy's and have started going through the stuff that people before me hacked. It is very basic and is pretty straight forward. If you have any experience at all I think this is something you could do pretty easily. I have had customers have me just come and do it for them... but most people can do it themselves.

Ok thanks Cale, One thing I've actually thought about doing is laying the harness on my toolbox or bench and start removing wires that I don't need from the harness with my mitchell and or chilton schematics.

I also figured the painless universal kit would be just as easy to install and probably take less time than cleaning up the factory harness!

You could do that... Just curious but what all are you trying to eliminate? Is this for a street car or a race car deal?

The car is going to be both street/strip. I'm just trying to clean up and get rid of alot of the wiring that I don't need like the hvac, cruise control, air bags, the chimes, modules and the factory stereo wiring and all the other dash garbage. I have just a plastic shell with my gauges right now. Plus, You've seen the crazy wiring when you pulled the dash out of her car, my wiring is kind of jacked up too!

I'm building a single turbo blow thru 502, C6 trans w/ gear vendors OD, minitubbed with stock suspension. Before my old man gets any worse and can't get around. I want us to be able to do the hotrod power tour with the car.

I just wasn't sure about tossing the oem harness for the car or trying to integrate a painless or street rod type harness. To make it clean, simple and easy to work on.

I know that's probably more info than you needed but that's where I'm going with the car and the build.
