I seem to be gettting conflicting advise on components for an R12 system. I am NOT converting my system from R12 to a HFC134A. I am servicing my R12 system and am going to continue to use R12 refrigerant in it.

So given my hard-headedness - can you help me with the following questions?

1. Is Ester Oil the correct oil to use in an R12 system?
2. If not, can you tell me the brand name of a high quailty lubricant that I can buy in an 8oz size?
3. Is there a difference in the desiccant used in the drier for R12 vs HFC134a?
4. If there is can the drier from an HFC134a system be used in an R12 system?

Thank you for your help.

you can you ester oil with both types of refrigerants, the old mineral oil was used in the older r12 systems and pag oil in the 134a systems. you can use the 134a drier with an r12 system.
you must have some r12 stashed back to still want to stay with it lol! hope this helps , john

Thanks John

Yes I do - I bought a 30 lb can just before it went off the market. Probably still have 25 lbs left. For what real R12 is worth today - I probably should sell it and buy some other goodies!

I also found true mineral oil at one of the local autoparts stores. Do you think it would be better to use mineral oil in a Sanden compressor then the ester oil?
