Well Im making a move from southern cali to Tennesse this summer. First thing on my mind is EMISSION laws  Anyone familiar with the laws in Tennesse. I have sold cars here because I couldnt smog them. Im hoping there is no emmision testing so I can build something late model. I'll be in Clarksville TN.. about 40 min out of Nashville.

I am not for sure about TN., but I live 1 1/2 hours from Nashville, and I have not heard of any regulations.

Not living there now, but did for 15 years... up until two years ago.
Davidson county (Metro Nashville) and all connecting counties have emmissions testing. Called MARTA there. '77 and newer cars I think, not sure. I think you are ok up in Clarksvegas. You in the Military?

Check with Blake aka IDT-572. He's from that area.

You are right on the border with us Kentuckians and real close to Bowling Green where we met for the NMRA race last fall.

When are you moving? It's just a hop, skip and a jump over to Owensboro where we will have the BBF event this April.

Have fun moving, I HATE moving :x

As I'm driving through Tennessee most nights, from the junkers I see flying around the urban and rural areas, if a "smog test" exist, it must not be enforced!

Dave, they don't care how safe the junk is as long as it passes the sniffer test. You could have tires with the cord showing , have to stop by dragging your feet, and no lights at all. They don't do a safety inspection. Kinda silly if you ask me. Lots of dangerous cars around.

Welcome to the Volunteer State, Tyler!

Tennessee is absolutely NOTHING like California as it relates to emissions testing. As stated or inferred by some of the other Forum members, "testing" varies and is geared primarily toward vehicle registration.

The state is actually divided (for all pratical purposes) into three different regions surrounding the major cities of Chatanooga in the East, Nashville in the central part of the state, and Memphis in the West.

I am in the Memphis area and can speak to that area. There is registration testing for all vehicles, i.e. safety (lights, brakes, wipers and the sniffer test) for cars registered in the City. There are NO inspection requirements for people registering their vehicles in the area (Counties) around the city - - go figure. That means if one lives in the suburbs outside of the city, you don't have to have your vehicle inspected prior to registration.

Again, I am not aware of anyone being stopped on the road anywhere in the state for a sniffer test. We don't have the same atmospheric problems that exist in California.

I eoutinely travel all over the U.S. and in my opinion Tennessee is the ABSOLUTE best place to be.

Again, welcome to our state.
