and if you do have to cut it run a die on it before you cut it,leave the die on while you cut.
Well tapping it just about gave me a heart attack I was able to tap deep enough and then I put the bolt in and it had the clearance but when I pulled the bolt out to lock tight. the threads I had just tapped were so brittle they broke off and luckily the original threads were not damaged. I don’t know how this happened but I’m just going to shorten the bolt now. Was about to be a very sad day

What I think happened is that new threads were only on the tapered section of the tap and when I put the bolt in that was trying to tap the rest of the way but they had no where to go but break

was the tap tapered at the end,i am guessing it was,
or was it a blunt end tap.which is better for continuing a thread.

sux been there . hope cutting the bolt goes better bro.
