Built up my first BBF for a 18ft jet boat. Currently turning "A" cut impeller 4800 rpm and according to Berkeley HP chart says my engine only makes a whopping 350HP. Stock BBC boats are faster than me... I bleed blue but damn those Chebies boys are making me look bad. Below is my build parts am I way off on power or a totally mismatched setup to blame please any help would be appreciated.

  • 466ci
  • Dove heads rebuilt/ported following reincarnation excellent instructions
  • Claysmith cam In/Ex Duration 280, @.050 231, In/Ex lift .565
  • slugs in hole .020 with -22 dish pistons guessing 9:5:1 compression (running 91 and spark plugs look great)
  • stealth intake with old 750 vacuum secondary carb
  • kasse oil pump
  • rotating assembly balanced
  • arp hardware
  • scorpion rollers
  • log style manifolds
  • 35 degrees ignition timing

Engine runs really smooth. I was thinking about throwing a 850dp at it and a performer air gap intake.. maybe headers but guys big block ford's are EXPENSIVE AS HECK lol I built a 331 stroker with afr heads for a 68 mustang and its a ripper but this BB seems anemic.. maybe if this engine was in a car it would be a ripper too. Opinions please

I read once that boat engines 460s like a 108 LSA? What is yours? Also with exhaust manifold it might cause alot of reversion upstairs and cause it to go lean, try jetting up carb about 4 jet sizes. Also with reversion it might need more total timing. Get some header!

Cam card says 110 LSA. Called Nick at Claysmith Cams and he strongly suggested a larger carb and degreeing the camshaft.. said my combo should make 500hp but this is hard to believe. To be honest I haven't played with the carb and i'm totally thinking about headers but the kiddos freak me out around them.

What ignition setup are you currently running?
I assume it’s a berk pump. Do you have any pump mods? Loader, shoe, ride plate etc?
There’s more to finding mph in a jet than just throwing more hp at it.

That single pattern cam is killing your top side.
Logs are not helping matters either.
