Okay Guys,

Many of you remember the Donald Bowles / Jack Roush operation that was at the BB Ford Bash. According to our Mr. Mayfield the Roush/Bowles group rented the track yesterday and were there testing. Jack himself, along with his daughter and son-in-law, Donald Sr, Donnie Jr and the main guy from the E-85 fuel deal. They had all 5 Mustangs along with all the cars that we saw there last year, including the old Falcon with the FE engine.

Do we know anything yet about the experimental engine?

Is Ford going to replace their 385 series crate engines with this new engine?

I talked to a good friend of mine in the Ford Performance tech group yesterday and he told me that they're not replacing the 385 series engine itsself, but more to the extent of replacing the 514 crate engine.

He stated they are working on "possibly" a bigger crate engine that will still be based on a newly designed version of the current A-460 block, but that it will still be a 460 "based" block design...

He also said that whatever Donald Bowles & Jack Roush are working on/developing, that Ford is is not directly involved.... "as far as he knows"

I do not know what the C.I.D will be or if they will do it...just that it has been discussed....Chevy having a bigger crate engine has a lot to do with it , IMO .

Did anyone look at the engine in the yellow car? It is a modular engine but is a lot longer than the 5.4 or 4.6. We talked to Don Bowles about it and he said he couldn't say much about it but it was an experimental engine from Ford. It must be pretty stout to run 9.00 in a car as heavy as that.

I didn't get ca chance to look at many cars, wish I had but time seems to fly by....... We did talk to the guy in the white car while in the tech line.
"The guy" in the white car is Mr. Donnie Bowles to you, Twinkle Toes :!: He's very nice and cordial. Speaking of the white R&D car, did you notice the big B.F Evans Raceparts decals on the quarter panels?

Also, I'd like to know why you didn't join those of us who were sipping a little moonshine in the parking lot of Rafferty's after dinner late Saturday night? Was it because your wife was with you :?:

He, heh, he,

Uncle Charlie,

We (Chuck and I) did notice the BF Evans decals on the quarter panels. We were telling Donnie that we were at the BBF Bash. Where's my BF Evans Race Parts decals :?: 8)

Donnie was showing us how the body is offset to put more bite into the right rear tire because they can't do much adjusments on the factory 3 link. I agree, Donnie is very nice and easy to talk to.

Moonshine :?: That was Moonshine? I thought that was kool aid :p

I looked at the engine in the yellow car. I had to look at it twice because I thought it looked like a V-10....nope, only 4 tubes per side.

I talked to the guy at the Ford trailer about what was going on with the BBF crate motors. Also asked him about if they were going to go any bigger than 514 since Chevy has the 572 and such. He said the main reason why they took off the BBF motors were because they had ran out of the blocks they were casting for the motor and that as soon as they were going to order more they closed the doors to the facility that makes the castings. He said at this time they were moving the casting to a different place and were going to cast the newer motors based on a A460 block. He said at this time he had heard of no plans to go to any bigger motors and that until late next year you would only be able to buy a 460 not even the 514. Not sure if he knows what he is talking about but he did say any other BBF motors that Ford might come out with would be no sooner than the end of 2008.

I think I have fiqured out what that new engine is!

The new technology, named TwinForce™, will appear on future Lincoln and Ford vehicles.

TwinForce uses direct injection technology and turbocharging. These technologies are common in diesel engines, but have only recently been combined for use in gasoline engines.

“Everything we do is driven by our customers,” said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Global Product Development. “Our TwinForce engine technology is a key element of how we’re going after fuel economy gains without asking anyone to give up performance.”

TwinForce’s direct-injection fuel system is different than conventional port fuel-injected gasoline engines. Instead of squirting gasoline into the engine cylinder head, it directly injects gasoline into the engine’s cylinders at high pressures.
