I need to repaint my headers and need some high heat paint that will prevent rust and not burn off.

What's the best I can get?

Thanks,

Jim

I've VHT header paint before, think you can get it at Oreilly Auto Parts or Summit Racing. Hopefully others will also give their opinion. Chris

Eastwood makes some real nice stuff. Whatever you use, make sure that your headers are really clean, or the paint will not adhere, and burn off in that spot fast!

VHT makes some Flame proof, high temp exhaust paint good for 1300*F to 2000*F , but make sure you look at the temp Ratings cuz they also have BBQ paint which the sales man tried to sell me but it was only rated to 500* O Reilly's carries it..

I have a set of boat headers painted with Stove Bright

http://www.forrestpaint.com/stovebright/high_temp_aerosols1.html

It has really impressed me with its' durability and it comes in multiple colors too! I used VHT before and it never flaked but rust spots formed after a while. The Stove Bright has held up even with retarded ignition timing during break-in causing a dull glow on the pipes  I thought for sure they were done! It does require a pretty extensive prep but honestly what paint doesn't

Good Luck

Thanks,

Now I just have to sandblast the headers and get the rust off them -- then get them painted. Think I'll use the VHT as I can get it locally.

Advance carrys a ceramic paint made by a company called DEI. (Design Engineering INC ) For paint out of a spray can I must say this is some pretty impressive and tough stuff. I painted the headers for our 598 early this spring and I just took them off the car to send them and have them coated last week. It still looked great, and worked better than the eastwood stuff if you can believe that, because I've always had good luck with eastwood but was in a hurry this time. They stock this paint over around the performance stuff like gauges and so forth, not with the regular paint.

Try it you will like it.

Header paint

The best I use is jet-hot coating. I coated a used set of headers in 1990 and the only place that shows signs of rust is where they touch the ground. I've also installed new headers from jet hot on friends cars and trucks. I also use BBQ grill paint on the rest of the exhaust system and it holds up . You can pick up BBQ paint from the hardware stores . VHT very high temperature , Makes a paint called flameproof they clame its for temperatures 1300-2000 deg. fahrenheit.
