Under $2000

For under $2000 you should be able to build a 521 or a 545 without any problems. Keeping the compression reasonable will probably be easier with the 521 esspecially if you are running a fairly mild camshaft. AD Performance has some very good deals on combos built with a Scat crank and rods and a set of off the shelf Probe pistons. I've used all of these parts before in a 521 build and it worked out great. With a set of ported DOVE heads and a Comp street roller cam it made 600 horsepower on 93 octane very easily at around 6000rpm.

that sounds pretty reasonable to me. is the 521 a .030 bore, or is it a .060?
521 is 4.39 Bore x 4.3 stroke. yes, it is only .030" overbore.

With your D0VE heads, dished 28cc pistons will put you at approximately 10.3:1 while 22cc dished pistons will put you at approximately 10.7:1.

Thanks alot guys, This is going in a 64 galaxie, Crites is the only headers i've seen made for a 460 in a galaxie so far, besides custom made ones. can they hold up to that much horsepower? i would get them coated also.

521 Intake and Carburetor

This 521 had a pretty much stock Victor 4150 style intake with a 950HP that I had custom built by Competition Carburetion. This carburetor was built using the regular 850 style baseplate so that I could hook up a PCV valve and vac advance easily.

Cam

In the 521 I used a Comp Extreme Energy street roller grind, the one I used was the 284 degree version.
