Anyone have a Pinto wagon build going on? Any headaches with it? I found out during the 460 teardown process that Ford decided to use a silly pump/distributor drive system. Can the oil pump be bypassed for an auxilary oil pump located outside of the engine? Any help would be great!

The distributor driving the oil pump is standard for just about every older American V8. Unless you're building something that needs a dry sump, why would you want to bypass the time tested, reliable stock style pump?

Sure, 460's can run an external oil pump with either dry or wet sump.

A 460 in a Pinto could be a real flame thrower and/or perfect for smoke shows. Nice!

Enjoy and good luck with the build.
