My mechanic is really worried about putting 1200+ hp in a 78 f150 because he thinks it will twist it apart. Is boxing the frame a fix for this? He also suggested a shift cable instead of rigid linkage so it doesn't throw itself out of gear at launch.

Is it feasible to just box the back half of the frame, or should I do both ends? Will this help with handling characteristics at all? Can't I just remove the front bumper to access the frame rails in front?

My mechanic is dead set on me getting a foxbody with cage and narrowed axle; but it won't be street legal like the truck will.

What is the intended use of the vehicle?

1200 Hp in any passenger vehicle is going to push the limits of the chassis weather it’s full frame or unibody, that is if you can make the tires stick.

I don’t believe just boxing the frame is going to stop you from twisting the vehicle into a pretzel.
