Well I figured out where the breaking point was on a ford 9", I let the TSL's down to 3psi and braked it to 2500 and it didnt even move, It striped the spider gears out and striped both axles so now I have put a spool in and going with some crome moly shafts, and a 4.30 gears so I guess we will see what she does hopefully tommorow

9"

Great,
Now I am going to be major worried as I didn't get time to get my Nodular case set up yet and am running the stocker for the first couple races. I am going to keep my fingers crossed as I run the crap out of it coming off the brake @ 4400. I haven't lowered my air pressure that low yet, maybe I'll stay a little higher like 8-9lbs.

Later, Mark L.

As long as you are already in the goo, you can cross the fingers and hope.:) I'm still running a stocker and welded spiders and puckering my butt every time I launch. Gotta get a better case and the spool in.:D

Just got done setting up a new Strange nodular cased 9" for one of the local mud racers who had been running a stock case for a long time. Finally got his truck hooked up running an A429 headed 514, left on the transbrake at 4000rpm.... well actually DIDN'T leave, ripped the pinion clean out just sheared the case all the way around the pinion support (pinion support still bolted to the iron that tore out of the case)
seriously look into at least a N case if not an aftermarket like the strange units

My buddys 512 in his 48 F1 run 35 Spline axles and is going to 40's when these break, but he is running 900hp, with 39.5 jimmy dean cut boggers and leaving the line at 4500 to 5000

If you have big tires and big power building a 9" is just throwing away your money. I had a buddy once that I got some used parts from and he had a pile of junk 9"s from broken and stripped gears to broken cases and most of them were N cases.

Amazing. guess I was lucking running a 9" with cut 39.5s and over 900hp for 5yrs without every breaking anything.
Now if your trying to use not good enough parts I can see it.

The reason I broke was because I was being an Idiot and playing aroun in the field beside my house and that these gears are what came in it in 77 and the axles were from 91 I think they did okay expesially since they were not chrome moly and stock spider gears from 77,
Now I have a spool and 31 spline chrome moly axles :D

Sounds like you're trying to spin a lot of tire for a stocker 9 inch. I used to run 38.5x15 on mine. Used to spin 'em plenty on the trails. Of course that was with a Sterling 10.25" rear, was locked originally but clutches are kaput so no more locky. Dana 50 actually held up to it alright.

Popped the bead and lost a tire in a mud hole once, had to ride out of the trail on the rim (the one time I didn't have my spare with me!) Slingin' mud out of the last hole I heard a pop, on the dirt road out to the street my front shat let go. Guess I was askin' too much out of just the front. Had to get out far enough to get a cell signal and call my buddy to bring me my spare. Amazed I never really broke more than fuses, I mean u-joints!
