Well I got my Bronco engine running great but the tranny is all goofed up somehow. I had issues with the shifter arm before and bought one with like 10 holes in it and found one that matched the detents on shifter and the valve body. It was working great then the tranny sat 7 years. It had a full rebuild and about 15 passes before it sat. Won't shift into 2nd sometimes goes straight to third. Hughes did the work and had it all goofed up. I had a hipster trans brake and had a 2-3 flare It took Hughes two times to fix it and they put their trans brake in.

Anyway first thing I want to know how this thing works. What is the order that the valve body applies pressure to the forword clutch, direct clutch, intermediate servo, and low and reverse clutch to get 1 2 3 N and R and brake I'm guessing the governor is not used and no modulator

I have been looking everywhere to learn what takes place in there so I can start to troubleshooting this thing. Anyone have a link to this information ?

I get lots of arm chair quarterbacking about it's this or that check your line pressure but first I want to know how it works!!!

Thanks, Pat

I'll msg you a link of my c6 books. If after reading them you need any further assistance, please let me know.

One of the books in particular is very specific on the hydraulic paths in each gear, very nice to see the images as it's hard to visualize sometimes.

Thank you Drew for doing that. It is about time I learned what goes on in there so I can fix it myself. I did come across something on line that might be part of what I need. But like you said sometimes it's hard to visualize. Plus I have a reverse pattern manual valve body with brake so some things don't apply when I read some of this stuff.

Here is what I found and on page 44 has some info https://shop.ukrtrans.biz/wp-content/uploads/catalogs/C6.pdf

1st gear in D is forward clutch and roller clutch
1st gear 1 is forward clutch and low/reverse clutch
2nd gear is forward clutch and intermediate band
3rd gear is forward clutch and High/reverse clutch

Reverse is Low/reverse and high clutch

Of course N & P are no clutches

OK Frank that's great that you will be coming to Phoenix. It would be an honor to get some first class knowledge on the C-6 from you. The reason I have been studying the C-6 so hard is that I have been snow bound in a ski hut in Austria. I am reading these books cover to cover. I hope I get back while you are still there. I get back Feb 22nd. Are you racing ?

edit OK I see the Nationals Feb 22nd to Feb 24th. I'm sure that's why you'll be there. I'll give you a call

OK I went over most everything and now have some questions. I see people refer to direct clutch when I don't see that for C-6 would that be the forward clutch ? I only see that term for the AOD. I see sprag referred to would that be the one way clutch ?

I only am concerned with C-6 with reversed pattern transbrake I had a Hipster transbrake and had to hold the switch to back up why ? This one I have now you don't have to why ? low gear is forward clutch and low reverse clutch so is the high reverse clutch applied to get the brake action ? This stuff is not in those books.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for clearing that up. As I read the different instructions from transbrake manufactures I finally saw a guy say direct clutch (high) so I kinda thought that's what it was. I guess sprag is the one way clutch which functions like half of the low/reverse clutch and one being in the converter That one is confusing to me. I still have questions. When I read this stuff it all genetically says the tranny is in first and reverse at the same time. For a C-6 first gear is forward clutch and low/reverse clutch. So how do you get first and reverse at the same time ? Would you add the high/reverse clutch with the solenoid ? Thanks

You got it . The trans is in low gear , that is the forward clutch and the low reverse clutch. ( Note : with the L/R clutch on the rear roller clutch isn't doing much)
Now it all depends on the valvebody, some don't use the low/reverse clutch, they just rely on the rear roller clutch to hold instead

Now to get the transbrake on , via solenoid, the high/reverse clutch is applied .

Dam you're good. I trying get this down. So roller clutch is that the one way clutch ? There are terms that throw me. So I'm getting through the mechanical part and the hydraulic part I'll leave for Frank. I'll be being buying some parts from him when he is in Phoenix. I have the one broke tranny in the Bronco plus I have the original C-6 laying on the floor. I have a big metal lathe so I should be able to machine the drums. I want to take a spare tranny with me drag racing.

Thanks again, Pat
