I was thinking of running some kind of Data Aquisition in my mud drag truck. We don't get any kind of time or mph slips to use as data. I really would like to know what my converter is doing. Would a simple system with engine rpm and mph work, or is there one?

A really simple and cheap way to do it would be with a movie camera pointed at your gauges. Then after the run you could look at the video and see exactly what happened. If you do that I would also try and record the other gauges to keep an eye on what the engine is doing.

It wouldn't be to hard to figure it out just compare what the rpm's of the engine is and what the speedometer says and figure what the ratio is in the trans. That is as long as the transmission is not slipping. You could even put a mechanical tach on the speedometer cable then you would have actual readout.

There are a lot of good choices for around $600
RPM Perf
Altronics
Innovate DL-32
Racepak $799

The good thing about the RPM and the Innovate unit, is that the upgrades and sensors are not near as high as the others.

The RPM Perf has the highest sampling rates and has a wireless download option.
