and quit dead hooking.the car goes out about 8 car lenghts then the rpms start to climb im

im being told,any ideas.

im the only ford guy in the family, cousin has a 66 chevelle w/598,9.44 @144 with ALL the latest and greatest,$$$ i got him know by 2 tenths but want to extend it over his wiz bang high dooler chit,he just sold his ported pro1 heads and put a set of CFE cnc ported on it and SHAZAM 9.44 @ 145.$5000.00 on a set of heads for 1mph thats funny chit.he was talking so much chit and now he wont return calls or bring it back out. sorry about that.

Here are some cheap easy options....

4-Link - Move the top bar up a hole.... It will make it harder to pick the front and then will spin easier...

Go to a smaller tire. A 29x10.5 would be fine for you.... It will gear you down a little more and will be plenty to get some hook and wheel speed. Guys are going 7.20's on those things!

Launch harder... don't know where your converter is setup, but if you come out of the hole hotter it will carry that rpm longer.
move both top up 1 hole?

i thought the drive side changed pinion angle.

doesnt pull front tires at all.

thanks.Mr Aronson
Please explain "DEAD HOOKING" not familiar with that term. Spinning, bogging?
Dead Hooking means it is not spinning the tire at all... It is dead hooked the F up! LOL

When you raise your 4-link top bars you will not pick the front... however it takes the agressiveness out of the chassis. Sounds like you need more umph.... you need to hit that thing a lot harder out of the hole! You need to make it spin the tires!
Needs more gear!
Very well could... that is why I said go down to like a 29" tire... that will help as well as getting rid of some weight and width.
thanks for the advice.

when funds permit ill try 29x10.5w

convertor is 5000 on the brake (chiped)ill pull it

its funny 867 hp wont spin the tire.hehehehe

at least i know the chassis works lol
To give you a point... When I ran Hot Street ....

397 all motor inline valve heads, 3300 lbs, 5 speed G-Force, 28x10.5 M/T... We ran 8.70's and that was like 2004. That engine was making 864 hp... lol!

You don't need that big of a tire, and that is a heavy car! For an auto you need smaller tires, and some gear!!!
thats hauling the mail with a starter motor lol.

we have a UDRA race at pacific in a couple weeks i will try going up 1 hole on both top

bars.i got a race nash 5 speed w/long shifter, all the gear ratios for 1-5,extra case under drive, main shafts, and a lot of spare parts.i have thought of putting that in there

stick cars are fun to drive.
I have been trying for 55 years to NOT spin the tires when leaving the line-and NOW you tell me I am doing it wrong.
I'm looking to improve the 60ft times, first 4 link chassis car.a little wheel speed i think might help because when the car leaves it pulls the motor way down and i don't have the funds for more UMPH like Cale said.i think 4.56 might have been to much gear so i went with 4.30 from 4.10,and a 33 to a 31 inch tall tire.it goes through the traps were i want at 7000rpm.trying to hit 8.9999999999.i should be able to learn to tune and setup 2.5 tenths
Sounds more like tuning to me. Don't overlook something simple. Does carb. have power valve in rear? if so maybe fuel is pulled away launching, same thing with jet extentions. Just a thought, Randy.

how much spin should we have? my tires turn 1/4 turn then the car moves.
Larry,
It is a little more technical than that.... If you were running a data logger we could look at your .25 and .50 increments... how fast the driveshaft is turning at those times into the run.

It is about maintaining the right amount of wheelspeed and in the summer you have to let a naturally aspirated engine breath, which means if you run a clutch, you have to slip that thing and give it some gear!

no power valve and it does have jet ext.

got a nos kit might put it on to get the pig moovvin
Cale

here is a vid of my car after i tried your suggetions, smaller tire more gear and moving the top bar up 1 hole http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-SyMWgBvjo .any help is appreciated.susp set up
Mav, if you'll give me your crank stroke, first gear ratio, tire height and I already have the car weight, I can crunch the numbers and give you a rear gear # that will be your optimum starting line ratio. From there we can work on the IC for the car.
Rob
p/w with 1.80 . 4.5 stroke

tires 31.25x12.2 .they measure out 31.5 tallx13.5 wide.slick

coffee getter tires are 33x18.5 et streets.4.10gear this was original set up
