I think it was a joke. I'm all for flag burning. To be against the right to burn the flag is to be against one's rights to protest and individual freedom (I may not agree with them, but fully support their right to do it). There's not much more American than openly speaking/demonstrating when you feel the need to do so. And while some people see flag burning as "hating the U.S." it is often just an attention getter to bring attention to small issues within our nation or government. I think the U.N. is a good idea, but is in itself somewhat of a joke... a watchdog with no teeth. At least it shows an attempt is being made, sort of. :? Nothing wrong with non religious prayer and worship either, although that's sort of an oxymoron. Maybe non religion specific is a better word. Praise and love whatever god you want so long as you respect others and are nice about it. I think most dems are not against a military, many just take issue with the details of some military actions and policies. Some people may see dems as just a bunch of sissy whiners, but they're just trying to make improvements so I don't think they should be criticized too much. I believe Al Gore is either an idiot or scammer, not sure which just yet. Of course, I think much the same of Bush.

If some one wants to burn our flag, then kick their butt out of the country, and let them burn away. To voice your opinion is your privilege and right, but to burn the nations symbol is nothing short of bull.
Scott, I do not get into this kind of thread, but burning our (your) flag is total bull. And you can call me Patriotic, and old school, what all Americans use to be.

You think the U.N. is a good idea?! Imagine that coming from your hole!! You can't even let a good joke go unmolested!! You must also think a one world government is also a good idea then. Because that's what the U.N. is all about. It may not have started out that way but I assure you that is their sole reason for existance. I have said this before and I'll say it again; if I EVER catch any so called American burning my country's flag, I'll die myself of go to jail to see to it they fully understand what a bad choice they made!!!!! Honestly, you need a girlfriend to take up some of your time. Maybe then you'll find something better to do than come on here and piss people off!!!!!!

I guess I am sorry for molestering the good joke. I must not have appreciated its goodness. I do love the U.S. I am an American. I also see the hypocrisy in taking away someone's right to burn the flag. Following for no reason other than following or being a "yes man" is not being patriotic. Old school is not stifling others rights and opinions. Our country was founded on nearly limitless personal freedoms. To take away the right to burn our own flag or peaceably protest would make Jefferson, Washington, etc. roll over in their graves. One world government (and yes, my uncle is paranoid about the New World Order stuff... and maybe he should be as I'm not yet decided) is not the same as an association of countries gathering to hopefully work through their differences with the input of other nations. Being offended or pissed off is no one's fault except for that person who is offended. You allow yourself to be unhappy about what someone says or does. There'd be no need for freedom of speech if no one ever disagreed or offended anyone else. It's clear that some people don't see the idiocy of their actions/ideas, but I am comfortable knowing that I am about as wholesomely american as can be. Of course, asking an idiot if he is an idiot is like asking a sleeping man if he is indeed asleep... and expecting an answer.

Oh, and Doug, I hope then that you never witness an American properly dispose of our flag as you'd probably end up assaulting someone in our military or a veteran.

I wonder if you're as tough as your mouth makes you sound. It's highly doubtful. You are most likely the kind of person that would sue the pants off of some real American for beating your anti-American *** til you can't walk... I'm not talking about the type of whoopin' your daddy will give you. I'm talkin' about pushing my fist through your anti-American head!!!!!!! Who knows, maybe we'll see each other at the "BASH" next year... And I see nothing wrong with a proper disposal of a worn out flag. It's outright burning that YOU are supporting!! So don't put words in my mouth. As I am a proud veteran of these great United States...

You have a great day now,

You're probably right that I'd sue you if you severely beat me just because you seem to think I'm anti-American. If it's about who can kick whose ***, I don't know you very well either (I dunno, maybe that's a good thing). I am a little guy, about 5'9" and 165lbs. I can barely bench press 200, can't run much faster than a 12:30 two mile, and can't even dunk a girl's basketball anymore. It sucks getting old and fat. Anyway, I think this little internet disagreement is stupid to make into a "I can kick your ***" argument. Just because someone is so American that they support all of the rights we enjoy, does that mean they should be beat up by veterans of our own military? Ghandi said, "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ." Some of us are helping and kind to others while some just want to be beligerent idiots who claim their acting in despicable manner is justified because someone disagrees with them. Doug, if I actually do make it to the Bash or any other gathering where I see you, I would probably shake your hand. But I guess you wouldn't stand for that. You may be angry and vengeful, but I don't judge so quickly and would surely get my *** beat for it. It's attitudes like yours that do make me wonder what parents are teaching their children anymore. I have seen several of these flag burning in protest discussions on the internet. I've even seen discussions about those who hate the troops themselves. In all cases, the guys who were higher up in the military who joined the discussions were nice and they actually supported those people's rights to say they hate the troops. If I were a soldier, not much would make me more proud to know that I fight for a nation which not only allows protests in any peaceful form but also tolerates the people who may hate me. I would not be fighting for my government, but for ALL the people of the U.S. and ALL of their rights and freedoms. Just out of curiousity, Doug, how long were you in the military and what was your rank when you left?

TRUTH HURT????????? And as far as my attitude goes, I'm glad it worries you. Oh, and I teach my kids (13 & 14) hold your guns firm, aim steady, and shoot to kill... I also teach them not to start trouble, but in turn not to take any crap from anyone. I don't really care much about your atheleticism, I don't recall asking about it. But, while in the Army, I was stationed in Korea, I was a sniper, was ranked 8th in a class of almost 600 Tae Kwon Do students, and afterward I was a state champion powerlifter for 15 years, and also played 2 years of Semi-Professional football.

WHO CARES!!!!!!!!

You base everything on opinion and the right to express one. Well, I still hold my opinion that I AM an American and you ARE NOT!!!!!!!

Well, you pondered whether I was tough at all. Toughness is hard to define so I just stated how small and lame I am lately. As you can tell, my limits are low and my abilities very limited. You may have played 2 years of semi pro football, but I played 2 years of junior high football. :p You are entitled to your opinion and it's fine that you express it. Yes! That's the spirit. Nothing wrong with that. See, we finally find out that we agree. Let's be best buddies now  Do you also teach your kids to exhale as they squeeze the trigger to keep it more steady? That's what my dad taught me and it seems to help.

Hey, since you're in Montana and into football, do you happen to know Jim Snider (Snyder?)? I knew him for a bit in Yellowstone and I think I recall that he went on to do some sort of football coaching in Montana. I know he played at Ohio as inside linebacker. I kinda doubt he's still in Montana, but ya never know.

Take a side for Christ's sake

Scott, the UN has been in existence for nearly 60 years. It is filled with mostly despotic regimes. If the UN was full of groups that were freedom loving, and democratically (as opposed to the Democrat party in the US which is comparable to the National Socialist party) principled then maybe some good can come from it. It will never be effective as long as we are in the minority. I say export it to Syria and stop funding it.

As far as democrats hating the military why then does my democrat neighbor have sign in their yard that states "Support the Military: Bring them Home". Whether is was smart to send them to Iraq in the first place they are there and it would be demoralizing to bring them home prior to victory. I don't hear the democrats stating that we need to bring our troops home from South Korea and Germany where they have been for 54 years and 62 years respectively. It took 7 years for the governments of Japan and Germany to stabilize after defeat and those regimes had been in place for at most 20 years. Sadam Husein had control for much longer.

As one of the decidedly few members of the forum who resides in Massachusetts, I'd like to offer my perspective on this, and a lifelong goal of mine.

1. Teddy is indeed an idiot. I'm not sure who votes for him.

2. To anybody who thinks Mitt Romney is the answer to the countries ills.. I have news for you.. If you think John Kerry flip flopped, Mitt Romney gives new meaning to the term! Used our state as a stepping stone, interestingly altered his views to match his location. The Absent Governor. I could go on.

3. A personal dream of mine is to open a flag store in the middle east. I'd also sell dolls of the US President, whoever that is at the time. For a little extra, I'd sell them soaked in cheap hair spray. I'd be a billionaire.

I Love GOD and America. The people who attacked this fine country on September 11th '01 hate the West,America and the freedom Christianity gives us.

I don't agree with the Democrats(or is it Defeatocrats) and their blame America 1ST,and cultural war against everything GOD/the original America stands for.

It seems Islam and the Democrats want the same thing the destruction of America.

IMO if these Islamofascisits ever unlease a Nuclear bomb on US soil our responce should be to NUKE Mecca, then Napalm the Al Axa Mosque among others FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE

I believe the Flag is a representation of our country. It should not be burned ever. By an American or otherwise.

I don't believe flag burning is any form of speech. That comes out of your mouth. Demonstrate all you want, but don't burn the flag of our county!

If it is not your country and you don't agree with its policies or policy makers than thats your opinion, share it in some other fashion in a non destructive way. However I wouldn't burn Canada's or anyone elses either. I don't believe that would change or benefit anything or anyone.

I agree, its very very disrespectful and in extreme bad taste to burn the symbol of this country, especially when it gives you the rights that everyone seems to take for granted, like being able to burn it and having the goverment protect your lilly *** while doing it.........

At least we're getting some good discussion now. I personally wouldn't burn the U.S. flag for any reason, but I fully support those who choose to do so. It was mentioned that you'd be killed for far less in some other countries. That's exactly the point. What makes this country so great is our freedoms. We can and should be proud that we allow our people to do pretty much as they please as long as they don't hurt someone else. Allowing flag burning is the ultimate in allowing our citizens to do as they please even if it is disrespectful to our government. It proves we are a free nation. I guess I wasn't aware that nude dancing or porn was illegal either. And those who attacked us on Sept. 11th died in that attack. That's why suicide isn't illegal. There's no way to punish the person who committed the crime because they're already dead. Of course, there are people who weren't on those planes who also want to carry out attacks on our country and we should try to prevent that to some extent. I personally don't feel threatened so I don't feel inclined to fight any war.

People seem to get all worked up when they see videos of Iraqis burning american flags or protesting against us being there. To me, that just proves we have liberated the Iraqi people. The have the freedom now to openly protest. A sign saying "Get out America" is a sign we've at least achieved something.

As for pulling troops out of Iraq before victory, it's good some are still optimistic about that. I'm more skeptical. On the other side, you've got people suggesting we pull them out before we're further defeated. It seems the definition of victory has changed throughout the war. It started as a war to end terrorism (what a joke, or at least I thought it was when I first heard 'war on terror') and now it's been reduced to the point that we'll call it a victory if we can stabilize Iraq in some form so we can get the heck out of there. I guess you should set your sights high so that even if you don't achieve the original goal, you still may achieve something in the end. If it was just a small portion of our active duty troops who've been in Iraq, I would say, "yes, lets send in some more and finish this thing up" but it's our national guard and as many of our active troops as we can possibly afford to use who are there and have been there for too long without positive results. If we pull the troops out, all the people who thought we could win will say that us sissies lost the war. If we stay in there until we win, I fear we'll be in there forever.
