Different oil pump, do I need a different oil pump shaft?

1020 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  tvolsr1
Rebuilding my 87' 460. Replaced the stock, standard volume oil pump with a FRPP High Volume oil pump. I went to prime the oil system before installing the distributor, but my old oil pump shaft doesn't seem to be reaching the oil pump.?.

Am I doing something wrong? And if so, what?

You are supposed to put the shaft in at the same time you put in the pump. The shaft has a small clip on it near the top to prevent it from pulling out whenever you pull the distributor.

If you are trying to put the shaft in after you have installed the pump, you will need to remove the clip, and be careful not to drop the shaft into the oil pan!!

Oooopppps! Shows how much I know. This is the first engine I've rebuilt in 20 years.

Thanks for your quick response to my question.
