Hey Guys, Hep me out....
As some of ya know, I've been slowly working on building up a DIVE ('76) 460 to 501" with Edel's Al heads for dragracing use. In my quest to get the 'correct' oil pump, I've read of three sources that suggest using a Melling 429 CJ oil pump, with one source providing the part# of "M84 B HVS". When I spoke with my friendly parts guy, he said that isn't a correct number, rather I should order a "M84 E HVS" pump instead. Do you guys know which is which or if there is even any difference?
Thanks for your help in advance,
StickBBF

...maybe I'd be better served with a SVO oil pump?
Does anyone know if the SVO oil pump #M-6600-A460 is the same unit as the #M-6600-B4..?
-- Maybe just an updated part number?
Thanks for your hep, guys!

Hey Gang:
Earlier after I posted my request here, I thought of simply sending the question directly to Melling...
WELL, Kudo's to Tim Cross @ Mellings! - I've already gotten a response! For everyone's info, I've copied his response below...
Sir,
M-84BHV-S - (Exc-Police) use oil pan depth of 81/4", may require minor modification of oil pan, 60 psi @ hot idle, 75 psi @ hot by-pass, GPM: 3.75.
M-84EHV-S - (Inc-Police) use oil pan depth of 8 5/8", may require minor modification of oil pan, 60 psi @ hot idle, 75 psi @ hot by-pass, GPM: 3.75.

Make sure that whatever pump you use has a bolt-on pickup tube. That is probably why someone suggested the CJ pump.

Bob M,
I ordered and now have the Melling #M-84-BHV-S oil pump; it has the bolt-on style pickup. Thanks for the tip!
