Just watching Johnnie Heinneman [sp] Kick *** in TAF would be worth the price of admission by its self. Is there any Ford powered Fuel boats running yet or is the T/F Ford still a John Force only project?
Yes! Watching Heidemann is a treat. He has always had the mph record. He just broke it this summer by running 179.72 mph. He built a fuel ford motor and did some exibition runs with it, it was cool! So far none in top fuel hydro's. He should be there...
Well it's hard to find you here under a different name! Well I have a motor built for the boat now. just need to do some fab work, not to good with that! you go'in to phoenix? I pit on 8 second blown alcohol flat bottom.
No, not going to Phoenix. I gotta stay close to home as business is so upside down I cannot afford to miss any calls. I have a couple of customers that have been working 24 hrs, 6 days a week and sometimes need transportation at a moments notice so I need to be available. I've been tinkering with the Howard lately, rebuilt the V-drive and re-doing the guage panel and wiring. Thats about it for me. You need any fab help with your boat?
Ya, parts and pieces of it! I have some motor plates kind of cut out but not perfect. I would love to have this boat done by next race season! I have all the driving gear, boy does that kind of get expensive! about $2200. well It's all for the fun.... What year is your Howard? What's in it for a motor? Don't work to hard...
I guess if it were cheap and easy then everybody would be doing it. I have a 66 Howard wood deck that is now glassed over and painted. The wood did not hold up too well being stored outside but all that changed some years ago when I built a new shop so the Howard along with the Hondo and the Lavey get to sit in luxury in a relatively warm and dry shop. The Howard has a 514" BBF tunnel ram/2 850 Holleys. 1st gen alum. CJ Heads, Casale split case with 22% gear turning a 11.5" x 15 Stellings prop. What engine did you get together for your Howard? The last time we chatted you were still looking for an engine. Are you planning on racing or lake use? Best regards, Bob
Hay Bob, I ended up building a 473 bbf. It's a all iron 12.5 to 1. Solid cam about 660 lift. Single 1050 on a victor intake. I am hoping to run the 11's or the 10's and still be able to take it to the lake. There are a couple of guy's in my town that think there boats are fast. So I want to show them up. Not that mine is so fast, but to shut them up! So after I get used to this combo, I want to bore it to 80 over a put that 4.3 in. stroke crank in it to make it the 532. I think that the torque of those 532 will really make it fly! where do you take your boats out at? Do you ever take them to CFW?
Sounds like a great combo to get to know your boat. Once you get it dialed in you will want more and that 532 sounds like just the ticket. What heads are you using on the 472? Sometime I'll tell you the problems I had with the tunnelram on my deal, was chasing my tail thru 3 engine combinations in that boat but learned one very important fact, BBFs like to breathe. For years I would go to Berryessa, [Putah Creek] until the BLM closed all the resorts. Don't know what its going to look like next summer but so far it doesn't look good. I've been to CFW a few times but my wife doesn't like the place, no facilitys, dusty and hot. Last time we were there she asked not to bring her next time. Gonna miss the old Putah Creek, We always stayed at the motel and the restaurant/bar was an extra benefit. The resort has a great ramp and the Pope Creek bridge hangout was fun. Last year the Sherriff would close the bridge off on 3 day weekends because of the hassles with the idiots jumping off the rock and getting hurt.
I am running some dove heads that have been opened up. I forgot to tell you that I filled the block with filler to the bottom of the water pump holes.
I thought that by doing that, I could get the oil warm since the lake is my radiator. It will also get a cold charge to the heads. Sounds like horse power to me!Well that's too bad that your wife doesn't like old CFW. Ya, it does kind of suck for the facilitys. When I go down there, I have a buddy that lives in Lincoln, so I stay with him. I travel a lot to the cdba races in Oregon. That is the best race group I have been around. They have the best safety crew I have seen.I guess now we just need to get on Paul Kane to get his ford hydro done! I will have to send you some pics of my project...I would love to see yours...
