I have a 694 c headed sheet metal intake making 948 rwhp
Car is 2900 lbs. 85 mustang.

I race it 1/4 mile only and only have had this car out 2 times.
It ran 8.6s first time and every time. It has ok mph, 164 best but i think its sleeping untill after the 1/8th mile.

With 164 trap speeds, this should be real low 8s i would think. Possibly high 7s.

1/8th it runs 5.5-5.7 @128 with a 1.34 60'. 330 is 3.65 This is leaving on foot brake around 2200. I can't push the rpms anymore at the line or it will push the car.

I think i need a looser converter and maybe more gear. 3.89s now. Had 3.7 before and nothing changed.
32x14.5w tires.

When it was on the chassis dyno it showed pretty rich down low and then i cleared up and was a perfect a/f.
This also will slow me down i know. However, on the videos it does not look smokey when it launches or down the track.

Any thoughs or opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Alan

Sounds like your making all the power at high rpm's.I can understand the 60' times by leaving at only 2200 on fb,but it's pulling super hard on the big end. Sounds like it's really lazy on the low end. if it was mine I would go to a 4.11 gear,Taller conv,Trans brake w/4500/5k chip.
You did'nt say what kind of Tranny ,I assume it's a glide. If you have a belt drive timing setup ,I would advance the cam and see if that would help the bottom end some.

torque converter

Thanks for the input guys, the torque is out and on its way to the torque shop. The tranny is a comp C6 from Dynamic transmissions.
I will see what the torque does in the spring and go from there.
I would love to get my hands on a couple of QFX 1250s. That will be the next step for this.
I'll see what the rpms are the end and may change the gear also.

Thanks again guys

back bumper and trannys

The car is low and has 1700 lbs on the nose and 1100 on the back. Also has wheelie bar just in case. Lifting is not an issue, traction is. I has spun in the past with poor track conditions.

It is also hard to get rid of the C6 for 2 reasons, the money invested and the fact that its ford made. I would rather lose a tenth or two then have cheby parts. jmo Besides shifting only once is not much fun. Before ever putting a glide in, the money would go towards a gforce gf5r 5 speed.

Thanks though

I'm with you man!! Keep it all Ford!! I have a TCi C6 full competition trans with a brake as well so I practice what I preach. Get a higher stall converter and study astronomy through the windshield of that Stang!! It sounds like you have a beast on your hands. Becareful and have fun studying astronomy!

Alan, you can build a 2 speed racing transmission without any GM parts, just like your 694" has very few Ford parts. You are giving up a ton with the 3 speed and the gear should probably be a 4.30 or higher. If you like to shift, I would put a 5 speed lenco in it. We have 557 here running as quick as you are. :(

The Wallace calculator has you with approx +/- 900hp at the flywheel based on your et/weight/speed. I know it is low, but your combo is eating up a lot of power and bragging rights.

Alan x2 what Curt said . It took me awhile to let go of the C6 but now I'm glad I gave it up. With the right gearing and converter the car will definetly pickup, especially 60ft leaving on trans brake insteasd of foot brake. jmo.

I hear what you say about all Ford ,but if ya wanna go fast the c-6 is prob twice as heavy and takes a lot more power to accelerate ( I had a 2950 lb p/u truck that was 9.20's w/ c-6 went to the glide and after it was all sorted out it went 8.72) Just a thought .

A half a second gain with a transmission change is a whole lot considering the times and speed he is running. I'm all for the C6 but if you can pick up that kind of time it could be worth a shot.

OK. If you can't do the C6 anymore go Lenco. Who needs bragging rights when you got all those levers to pull!!

tranny

Wow, hands down to the glide. I knew the c6 took extra power but not half a seconds worth.
A few years back a customer with a 659 CI TFS 3600lbs car went from a c4 to a c6 for reliability reasons and actually gained et. went down 2 tenths and with carb work down another.

Has anybody else done tranny swaps alone and noticed et gains ie any tranny to a glide?

Realy have my wheels spinning now. (in my head)

Thanks for the input guys.

If everyone says it, it must be true or close to it.

I had about a bada$$ c4 as you could build.......converter was right etc etc, I put the glide in with a kick a$$ converter and it picked up 3 10ths and 4 mph............best 60 w the c4 was 1.31, glide 1.26

As a bonus I don't have to fix the tranny every other damn weekend.

Weight c4 vs glide was a wash, c6 will be a bit heavier, the lighter internals will be a big plus.

Trans

When I made the swap I was a solid 9.70 car no other change then trans and converter swap car became 9.40 car and it only had a medicore 466 in it at the time.

when I did go to the glide at first that was all I changed it picked up about .3 then after maximizing the shift point and changed the rear gear (4.10 to 4.30) it was another .2 faster and best 60' s ever .

All this e.t. you guys are picking up leads me to believe that there were some other things involved such as transmission trouble that had gone unnoticed or you now have a better matched setup in converter and rear gear ratio.
