I'm going to be building a stroked 460 and I've built nothing but a 289. I'm looking to get about 650 bhp out of the motor but I still want it to be streatable and reliable. Definitely want it to run on pump gas and I'm thinking about topping it off with big IDA webers. I've always loved the look of a Ford with Webers on top. I realize the Webs are expensive but what good is a dream if you can't go for it! As far as the reliability part goes, I'm willing to spend extra money on roller cam and rockers, as well as coated pistons and chambers.

I'd really like to hear what you experienced builders would do with a 460 block that meets my criteria.

Thanks in advance,
Stretch

I've heard some pretty bad things about the PAW kits, no personal experience because I'm not willing to take the risk there. As you probably know, Ford sells a 514ci that is supposed to put out 600hp and 600ftlbs. In the tests I've seen, it easily tops this and puts out 620hp/630ftlbs. It also picked up a ton of power by going to 1.8:1 rockers. You may want to look at their specs as this will get you pretty close to your target.

Do you think that it's worth building myself (to save money) or would you recommend going with someone like PAW or a Ford Motorsports builder? I've seen 460/514/524/545's advertised from between 5k to 8k. All of which make between 600 and 700 horsepower. I don't know what the pieces (and machine work) cost but was hoping to save a little by buying new parts and assembling it myself.

In the beginning there was darkness. Then Chilly said "let there be light", and the rest is history!
