i bought a what we thought was a 360 390...i like these engines for the farm trucks...i tore it down and found the pistons to say 410...did a lil serch and found it to be a merc engine...made from 65 - 69 ish.....it said that it had a 428 crank in it ,,,just wanted to see if someone on here knows a lil more about it if its good or just like a 390 ...thanks Jordan

the best way to know for sure is to pull a head and measure the stoke. It should be 3.98 if its a 410. there are so many mismatch fe's out there it's hard to say for sure. You used to be able to get good good money for those cranks but there are so many aftermarket ones out there now you'll have a tuff time trying to get 200 bucks for one then you still have shipping on top.

if its a 410, yes its a 428 crank, it will have a 1u on a counter weight, more then likely say c6me under the starter? the flywheel/flexplate will be ballance diff,so dont bolt on a 390 one

The low compression 390 pickup truck engines used 410 pistons, with a 390 crank. The bore for the 390 & 410 are the same (4.05"), so the 410 piston sits down the cylinder over .100" at TDC when used with the 390 crank. A 428 crank will have "1U, or "1UA" or "1UB" stamped into the #7 counterweight, a 390 is normally 2T or 2U, a 360 is 3T or 3U.
So just because the pistons say "410" doesn`t mean it is. 410`s were only factory installed in 66 & 67 full size Mercury cars.

X2. 360S have been done the same way with a 390 piston and 360 crank.

nothing wrong with a 410,wasnt tryin to let any air out myself, i just did a 410 for a guy,nice build. see if it has a 4u on the crank

I may be wrong but my parents had a '62 Park Lane that had ,what I believe to be, a 410 in it.

FE based 410's were only used in Mercury cars in the late '60's. I believe that there were 410's that were earlier but I'm thinking that they were MEL based engines and not FE's, check that out to be sure. The "410" piston was used to lower the compression ratio the "Mopar way" by putting the piston way down in the bore at TDC, not elegant but it works and it's cheap.
