I have a aluminum headed 514 that is 12 to 1 and is around 600-650 horsepower. Can I run a mechanical fuel pump on this motor with a 1050 dominator?

Your gonna need a pump that will surport 800-1000 hp. I dont think you,ll find a mech. pump that will put out that sort of GPH.(Unless your talking a belt drive deal.)

Carter makes a 172 GPH unit M61044 . We used it on a 572" pump gas engine that made over 750 HP .

what size of fuel line did you use with the 572 and how big were the fittings on the fuel pump?

It comes with a -10AN in and -8AN out fittings , which should do a nice job .

Why would he need a pump to support 800-1000 if he makes 600-650?

Whitebronco,I just did a complete Aeromotive fuel system on my Bronco.It's good for 700 horse.Make sure you run a return style rugulator,it help's keep the pump running cooler.I used a -10 going from the tank to the pump and a -8 going from the pump to the regulator.From the regulator to the carb I used a -6.I used a -8 for my return line to my tank.

I was always told to go over by a good 20-25% when it came to fuel pumps ect.
The Carter pump sounds like it gets the job done though.I hadn,t heard they had one that big.

Just checked Summit. $183 for the carter mech.(no reg. needed)
$163 for Similar elec. Aeromotive.(reg. and return needed).

Hmm.Interesting.
