Hard Luck Chuck strikes again.

After Friday’s T&T all was good, just had to fix a small oil leak and a small vibration that turned out to be the rear yoke. Both were fixed over the weekend but then Sunday Chuck calls and says they are getting water in # 6 cylinder. Chuck and his dad Eddie took the engine and tranny out yesterday and after I finished my honey-do list I met them at the shop. We took the intake and head off the engine and couldn’t visually see anything but maybe a suspect spot in the exhaust port and a few small scratches in the cylinder.

After speaking with Blake, Charlie and Lem we bolted the head back onto the block, topped off the water and then pressurized that cylinder with 110psi and couldn’t find anything. No bubbles in the water etc…… So I’m now thinking that the head is leaking water, BTW these are DOOE-R Iron CJ heads.

Eddie is taking the head to Butch Smith this morning to get it pressure checked. As soon as Chris calls me back then we will know where we stand. Spoke with Ray at Ray’s Crack Repair, if the head is cracked then Ray says that he can fix it ASAP.

SO long story short, unless we can get this one head fixed ASAP or Beg/Borrow a set of heads; then Chuck won’t be bringing his car to the BBF Bash and he’s pretty upset about it. Anyone want to loan me a set of heads for one weekend? Need to have roller springs and titanium retainers. Plus OEM valve pierce points along with Ford intake and exhaust ports. Blake’s already offered to loan Chuck an Iron CJ head, we would just need to swap over Chuck’s valves, springs and retainers.


I’ll keep you posted when I found out more.

I'd let him borrow a set I have, but they won't be their untill thursday evening.

Gee kinda sounds like my luck... I thrashed all weekend and got the truck ready (except for pushrods which should be here today) only to find out from the guy I "was" going to borrow a trailer from that he loaned it to his dad... And nobody else I know that has one, has one available on this short of notice... So it looks like I may not be coming either... :evil: :evil: I'll keep looking and hopefully something will pop up.

Daily Uhaul Rental, have them get you one, call their corporate office, not the local.......... Ryder? Penske?

Thanks D, Damon can talk all he wants. Come Friday, he will pipe down a little!! ALL he is gonna SEA is my tail lights!!!! Then he will pick on someone else!!!!

I have a Spare .030 D1VE I could bring for him. But again it won;t be their untill thursday Evening and You and Chuck will have to to the All Night Thrash !!!

Damon, take a thin pencil light & go down in the water jackets around that cylinder. When I cracked #2 cylinder on my stock block, you couldn't see it looking in the bore but it was there plain as day in the water jacket. I hope that's not the case for Chuck's sake.

Update:

Chuck just called me from the Machine shop. They can't find anything wrong with #6 cylinder. The block was cleaned and checked with no cracks....... BUT he said that the deck surface is really ROUGH and whoever decked the block last didn't do a very good job. SO he's going to skim the top 2 or 3 thou and we are going to put it back together and keep our fingers crossed. Butch will also run a dial bore gage through the cylinder to make sure it's in spec.

We will most likely put it back together this weekend. I'll call Sean at bfevansraceparts.com in the morning and order Chuck a rear main seal and a set of head gaskets. I already have intake gaskets.
