HELP!! cooling issues

1671 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  460mustang
i have a 460 with D0VE heads, had an issue with over heating. went to about 220 degrees so i pulled the thermostat. If i leave the cap loose and rev the engine the coolant spews allover the place. why would it build pressure to do that with no thermostat and the cap loose?

Compression getting into cooling system.
so your thinking cracked head or gasket as well?
Yep. Could get lucky and have warped head, but its proly the head gasket. Do a leakdown test to see if thats your problem.
ok thanks for the insight
if you do not have the thermostat in when you rev the motor the water pump will blow the water out the rad I have done this before
Need more info ,such as what the engine is installed in ,type of fan ,radiator size ......when is it overheating ,driving down the road or at idle?

The more information the better.
