So, on my way home last Thursday, this choad in a Mercedes (a Miami Vice era POS with collector plates, no less) decides to do a lane change into my left rear quarter on my daily beater Focus. I gave him the universal "WTF" shrug-slash-arm movement, as he continued his lane change and was now behind me. I pulled over from the center lane to the right lane (we're on a three lane highway, BTW), and he follows suit. I find a nice spot on the shoulder to pull off, and he tears off. OK, I say to myself, the race is on. I kick the pedals of my 5 speed 4 banger like Gregory Hines on speed, but the Benzo is gone like Donkey Kong. I got the plate, though, so I call 911. They ask me to pull over and wait for a black and white to show up. I do, they come, take my info, etc. Gave me a phone number to call to get the accident report after I wait a few days for process. ANYWAY, I got the report last night. The guy showed up to the cop-shop two days later, and said he didn't know he hit anyone; but there WAS corresponding damage to his car. On the report, it lists his address and name, and states he's got State Farm insurance. I call my State Farm guy, and he tells me no one is in the system with his name, etc. Hmmmm.

So, I guess my question is: what should I do? My car just has a scratch & dent on it, and the left rear tire is scuffed up pretty good. Shouldn't this dill-hole have to pay for something? Not that I'd fix the car - I'd rather buy a Dana 60 for my truck, or a nice little cam for the 460 that's getting freshened up. At least this ***-clown now has an official "hit-and-run" on his record, which I guess gives me a little solace.

You know, about two years ago, some chick in a Ranger lost a bookshelf out of the overloaded bed of her truck, which I caught with my hood and front bumper at 65 mph. I caught up to her and motioned for her to pull over, and she bailed off the highway. Got a partial plate that time, but the police couldn't do anything about it. I'm not sure why my little car is getting picked on so bad on my commute, but it's time for payback. The question is, how??

Sorry for the long rant.

I got run off the road (on the highway) this weekend also on the way to the races with the car and trailer on the back of the F250 then the guy flips me off..
Well the diesel turbo kicked in and I payed back the favor. Yup I was pissed I just painted the car last week.

Did you go back to the cops and let them know he's not insured or gave false information to them?

Yeah, I've been thinking I'd like to have 4 more cylinders in that little car!!

That was my plan, to call the police back and say he falsified his insurance info. Them coming to his door would have a MUCH greater effect than me showing up. You know, if he'd a pulled over in the first place, I bet we could have shook hands and went on our way. But the whole running away thing really has me bothered.

He owe's

you enough to return you to exactly where you were at in value, whether you repair or not.
It's called indemnification, he needs to make you whole again.
If State Farm says he has no insurance you should notify police and insist they fine him.
If all else fails, get 2 ests, file a small claim court complaint against the driver
.
Idiot's like this boil my blood. I guess after 41 years in a body shop I'm edgy.

I am not a lawyer and do not profess to be one, I speak from past experience only.

Don't let them screw you, go after the know it all asshole!

AGGRAVATE the jerk.

I agree with Wowens, take him to small claims court. He is legally responsible, you did the right thing, and armed with that information, police reports, etc., you got him, period. Talk to a lawyer, definitely.

Next, go to a chiropractor for that ache in your neck, you know the one I'm talking about. I'm sure you're suffering horribly, can't sleep, numb pain. Someone should compensate you for that.

Get the car fixed and let the insurance company deal with him. They'll take him to court to get the money back. Been there, done that. Got the deductible back a year later.
Very true. Let your insurace company go after him... after all it's their job. You got his info and the police report -your job is done.

Uninsured motorist will take care of your beater if he dosen't have any insurance, and your insurance company will sue him to re coup their loss.

If you have a problem, and no one else will help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team! Seriously though, good luck.

Maybe a late night visit to his house with a 5 gallon gas can and a Bic lighter. You could give his car a 89 octane wash and dry!!!

Ha! You guys crack me up! I like the WWMMD and th e89 octane wash & dry. Turns out he told the cop that there wasno way to say I didn't hit HIM. So, that's how it's gonna go. I'm calling one of those "no fee unless you win something" lawyer dudes tomoorw morning. I don't want to pay my regular lawyer the big bucks, especially if this pillow biter doesn't have any money.
