Was wanting to know how anybody out there is getting the old PU's to hook up at the strip. The truck in question is a 71 F100 2WD. Havent started on the project yet, but want to keep it "Low Budget" in a sense. Going to be a 460/C6 combo.Also, does anybody know what the wheel bolt pattern is on these trucks? Thanks, Steve

Wheel bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2. Long bed or short?

weight helps but also hurts. i have seen some ppl with steel plates on the bed or a water blivet kinda thing. leaf springs a assume so traction bars or ladder bars. is it a "posi"? if its a track only monster throw a spool in it.

My 69 F100 back when I had a 351c built in it my brother had some springs he pulled out of a 65 3/4 ton we put them under mine.They kelp it from spinning on the street I did take I believe 2 leafs out of them been years ago.I still have them under it now they make for a ruff ride unless you have about 300# or so it the bed.But it don't blow the tires off if I have to floor to get out in trafic or something.

F100 traction

I have a 68 short box ,about 25 years ago I added slapper bars that were made just for trucks, also a Detroit locker. 460 with wide ratio c6 3.50 .I have had this truck since new, Kenny

If you are not planning on hauling anything in it - you could look to do what my neighbor did to his last "toy" ('72 F-100 short box).
He disassembled the rear leaf packs, cut the back half off of every leaf but the main leaf, then reassembled. He also took a set of used swap meet slapper/traction bars that were supposed to have been from a Mustang? (but any with the right bolt spacing would work) - cut them in the middle - picked up some scrap box tubing from the local scrap yard that fit inside the original square tubing and used that to extend the bars so that the snubber hit directly on the front loop of the spring where the mounting bolt goes through.
I rode in that truck a number of times after that modification and the weight transfer and hook that he would get with that truck was impressive!
The engine wasn't anything radical - 429 out of a '69 Lincoln that had a mild Blue Racer 268? cam in it with Torker intake, Holley 750 and headers (he had to mixed CAM2 with 92 for fuel to keep it happy though) - but boy, that truck would squat, hook and go! Surprised a number of people - myself included - just how well that set up worked and how quick that truck would move out!
Definitely inexpensive to set up and easy to work on.
