If someone is going to wright a story in Hot Rod then he should get his facts right. The writer states that big block cantd -valve chevys whupped Ford in NASCAR in the late 60. I do not remember a chevy that could even start a race. If one did start it would blow up before the finish. Can anyone remember the time that Smokey Yunike was banned from NASCAR?

Sounds like another one of them Chevy clowns that has to push the "big bad bowtie" on everyone.
Ford absolutely ruled NASCAR in the 1960's. It started off with Pontiacs being the dominant cars on the big speedways, but it did'nt take Ford too long to figure out how to smack them all off the table.
GM had a racing ban starting in 1963, so that pretty much left them out of NASCAR competition for the remainder of the decade. There were a few privateers who ran some GM cars, but they were no real threat without factory support.
As a result, the 1960's became a battle between Ford and Chrysler.
Ultimately, Ford and Mercury teams racked up more wins than Dodge and Plymouth.
From 1960 to 1969, Ford won 222 Grand National event wins. Mopar won 165, and GM won 36!!.....and of those 36, they were divided between Chevy, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile......thus making the Chevy wins few to be sure.

Tell a lie long enough

And soon it becomes the truth. That Chevy idiot is so misinformed it is pathetic. He should research his facts before writing that drivel. He just might discover the Chevy could not finish a race because it usually ran over its own crankshaft. GM bailed out of racing in 1963 because they stood to lose its reputation because they didn't have a production engine that could compete and complete.

I just finished reading Darrel Waltrips BIO and he says in his book that he hated the big block years because he could not get a Chevy big block to run flat out for 500 miles and that he was glad when NASCAR shortenend some of the races to 400 miles give them a chance
