This weekend will be the last race for Huntsville Dragway. George Howard is not renewing the lease. I don't know if anyone else will pick it up, but I hope they do. It looks like all those subdivisions that have moved in on the track have succeeded in getting rid of it.

You know...That sucks. There have been many great tracks shut down due to whining yuppies. The track was there when they moved into that damn house... Like it or sue the realtor.

You think we could get any pro football or baseball stadiums shut down due to noise or traffic issues?.... Hell no.

You aint seen the last of it. A few years ago, I read a story about some people who were complaining about Talledega speedway.
Before too long, they are gonna close the tracks that you never thought would be possible to close.

Thats sad, it a hard time right now to be a track owner. With the higher cost of fuel and hotels on the racers. It makes it hard for the tracks to pull in a lot of racers. Especially the tracks that plays host to heads-up racing. I'd say a track with a good bracket race program is the only ones that are really going to be able to make it. IMO

From all the work we do in the Huntsville area, I'd have to say they make enough money off of research facilities.

I heard yesterday that the original lease holder is going to keep it open for a few more years. I don't know if this is true, but that's the rumor around here.

I'm sure they already killed the car count anyway. I was told you have to have mufflers on your car to run there now. That's why I quit going there.

Back in 1994 the Turkey Trot Nationals we raced there for almost 48 straight hours. Man I love that place. I'm very, very sorry to hear George gave up, it's hard to blame him though.

Yeah , George did a great job there, we were there a few years ago and it was super hot ,and ole George was riding around on a 4wheeler handing out ice cold water...never have I seen a track operator do that..most would just raise the price of the water..

George started the pro-mod stuff at Huntsville in the mid 90s and I enjoyed all the fun we had there running pro mod. Sure gonna miss the place. I have heard that the track may well stay open in the future.
