Ok, I know this has nothing to do directly with cars but here is my problem. My buddy gave me one of those clear front door refrigerators he got at a auction. He plugs it in and no cooling. He gives it to me and I figure I could use one in the garage for beer.
It has a sealed system. Tecumsi unit. 134a freon.
What is involved in recharging this thing? I know you need something to pierce the tube ends to add freon.
I hear the thing cycle every few seconds so I figure low on freon.

Is it worth fixing or should I **** can it.

well i'm sure you could find one cheaper than you can fix it, but... They should have some means of charging the system, if not then get an AC company to supply valves and such then get it recharged by said AC company..if you want it then by all means go for it. a call out would be enough money plus freon, unless you can do it yourself with adaptors off the valve dealies to fit the automotive cans.

yep, find the leak. If it's not a line out by the compressor, it's going to be the evaporator which would mean new fridge time if it's not easy to get to the leak point. The condensors almost never seem to go bad. If it doesn't say how much refrigerant it takes, you can kinda "wing it" by vacuuming it down, plugging it in, and then add refrig until it turns on and runs. Then just add a bit more (excess will pool up in the evaporator core) and leave it be. What you don't want is to add so much that it's fluid coming back into the compressor. An icing evaporator can also cause that. You could take this time to add an inline sight glass. In that case, just add refrigerant until it's not bubbly in the sight glass.

I will take your advice and **** can it. I don't see any oil leakeage anywhere but its not worth fixing it. It's not a good idea to have ice cold beer in clear view on a hot day in the shop.......................hahah
That and a computer and I would never get any work done.
