Hi all,
getting ready to bolt the c6 to the 460 How much fluid do I need to put in the converter, (stock size)? Also, this trans is from the 70s (ribbed case) so does it take type F? FWIW, it is a brand new rebuild, never been run yet; so should I change the fluid after engine break in also or just leave it? One more question, Is it worth the money for synthetic? use any less horsepower to work?
Thanks,
James
tip the converter on edge. and fill it to half full. so it doesnt pour out on the ground while it is tipped up. as far as fluid type. it should take type F. as long as the kit you used doesnt say specifically to use something else.
Put about 8 quarts in the transmission and fire it up.
The pump will fill the convertor in a few seconds.
Then add fluid until the proper level is obtained.
There is no need to change fluid after break in.
Check the condition and level quite often and if it stays clean and red you should be ok.
But if there is any contamination you should drop the pan.
Please clean the cooler and lines before starting it or you will introduce contaminated fluid back into the transmission.
thanks....The lines will be new...Do any/all of you guys use external coolers...will they be cooler than the radiator cooler? I was thinking about adding a cooler and having the fluid run through the cooler and then the radiator...any thoughts?
