Is that 292 actual or .050 lift duration? My roller in my 552 is 240+/- @.050. Made almost 600hp and 700lbs tq. Actual is 290+/- degree duration. What heads are you running? Head [email protected] X amount of lift will help decide a lot. If you don't get enough lift to reach the flow capabilities of the heads then it will be the cam that is what is holding you back not the heads. Cam and head flow need to correlate to each other. ie head flow is 400cfm @ .700 lift and you are only getting .650 lift and the heads are now down to 375cfm at that lift. Other way around is not as bad. Cam lifts to .750 and the heads are max flow at .700 you are lifting more than necessary but you aren't shorting the capabilities of the heads.

Assuming your duration #'s are @ 0.050", you're running more cam than I will with my pump gas 572. It will definately decrease your max RPM and optimal shift point though. That's good or bad depending on how you look at it :). I'll be shifting my 572 @ 6,100 and am actually happy about that.

Have a good day!

You're making one of the classic mistakes that many of us have made in the past. Choose your combonation and stick with it. That 4.5" stroke is going to soak up that cam like you wouldn't believe.

What was your intended rpm range ? You didn't list the lobe sep, what is it ? Your dove heads are a huge limiting factor on your engine, if you go the P-51 route dump that cam and have one built for the combo you'll have.

I'd want a street, strip car to be able to rev out a bit. I'd take a smaller stroke( smaller engine) with a good set of heads over a bigger engine and a restrictive set of heads hands down, but that's just me.

As other's have stated your looking at a shift point under 6,000.

Now that sounds like a very good plan. :)

with this cam..intake and carb..and ported dove heads ..it went 11.74 in this car...it did brake a rod...that was with the old owner...i got the car with the same parts...but with a slightly different lower end..it has dish pistons in it..probably around10-1..every thing else is the same..i did remove about 100 pounds of crap, and the front -rear bumpers will be removed also...
