Hey I was just wondering if anyone has run in the 6's with one carb on the motor ( no bottle ) ?

I have a 1775 lb hardtail with a 598 EX 514 Heads, SVO Block, PG 8 in converter, Q 16 fuel . My best so far is an 7.11 @ 187.86 corrected alt 1885. I'm sure I can get in the 7.0's ... But wondered if any regulars in the 6's ?

Thanks

Dave

yes oakley's dragster is fast, but i believe he runs the c head.
Not this year (2009). Oakley sold his C-460 headed engine to Cheyenne Stanley and is runing TFS A-460 headed engines this year. He has two dragsters, currently the 2009 American Racecars dragster has a 2 x 4 TFS tunnel ram on a TFS A-460 headed engine. The Undercover dragster has a TFS A-460 headed engine with a single plane 1 X 4 TFS manifold. He's darn close to the 6's with both cars N/A, but I don't believe he's broken through that barrier yet.

I suspect that the weight of these bigger, longer chassis dragsters is what's working against him. Along with the weight of a dry sump, an alternator, bottle, wing, big tires, bead-locs & etc. Put either of his engines in a lighter 1800 lb or so, hardtail dragster and you would be there.

Dave, it sounds like you are doing quite well with your car. Congratulations!

PG 8 in converter
Dave
That's much faster than my junk, but I'm curious about the converter. I would have thought that any dragster running those kinds of #' would just drive through an 8" converter.

I know a couple of guys with brand X stuff in the 6's and they all run a 9" or 10"

What kind of converter and what does it flash to?

converter

not sure about oakleys cars and he is quicker than me, but I have been running 9" .spragless converters from transmission specialties. my car weights 2080 lbs. and is running high 4.70s to low 4.80s and has been 4.40s on nos. seem pretty durable.

Hey Thanks..... I think there's more in it . When I ran it shook a little and we see air that's a good 5 or 6 hundred better throught the year.

60 1.046 been 1.02
330 2.922
1/8 4.526
MPH 152.83
1000 5.920
1/4 7.111
@ 187.86

I'm using a B&M from Les @ figspeed its spragless 8 in. Later in my elim rounds I was able to get in the 1.02 60's but didnt run it out trying for the W.
On the dyno with the TFS 2X4 ( out of the box not matched ) it was making more power. Pretty sure it would go in the 6's in good air. My div race is coming up so I'm going to see if I can really take advantage of the air. I have 3.89 gears with bead locks & no wing. I think it would be quicker without the locks ... but it's more stable with them.

Just thinking someone should be quicker than me :) I still have a lot to learn

I believe the big thing you have going for you is your light weight at 1775 lbs. Kristina is 2000 lbs.(four link) and Phillip Oakley is 2067 lbs.(swing arm). The 200 - 300 lbs is about 10 to 15% of the cars weight. As we all know, 200 lbs. is a bigger percentage of a dragsters weight, than it is of a heavier door car's weight. Therefore it produces a more drastic swing in a dragters e.t.

Keep up the good work!

heads

yes I wish my dragster weighed close to what yours does. I hope to build a new one this winter and trim the weight and maybe an aluminum block, have charlie look at my heads and see if he can improve the flow some..hey charlie what flow numbers do you get out of the c heads anyway, and do you have a special cam that you like to run? my heads flow494 at .900 lift intake and353 at .900 lift on exhaust. I noticed last year on phillips intake there was alot of welding done around the carb flange. I probably need lots of intake work. I am almost finished with my sheet metal intake but not sure if I need to run two carbs or not. thanks
