That senile old bas*ard should be tried for treason and hung. If anyone should know about failed administrations he should, he is an expert.

I'll take the other side. I pretty much agree with his Bush comment. I still think it's too early to really know how well Bush (or Carter, even) has done the job of President. Granted, I've only taken 3 or 4 300 level and above history/foreign relations classes which have covered Carter and only one that covered the time up through G. W.'s first term, but I honestly think Carter does have some room to talk (although not too terribly much). I think those who've made big mistakes are the ones who have the most authority to call out others on their somewhat similar blunders.

Actually Carter was one of the most unknown and most overrated Presidents of all time. He had a very small record of good stuff done and the rest of his record was spots of un-leadership. Its like saying that Jessie Jackson would be a good president for getting hostages back while the rest of his life he has brought un-unity to all races in the U.S. Instead of bringing whites and blacks together. Although my degree is in history, politics is ever changing and my opinion is my own. The party of Lincoln(Democrat) is actually now the Republican party. Bush has done some stupid things I will grant that. But at the same time he has had to clean up so many messes that were left to him by the administration that was directly before him. Some presidents are goaded over sending forces overseas like Bush to Iraq. But Clinton sent troops and lost many lives in Bogota and Mogidishu but has never had to answer to that mistake. Its all in how and who you look at when basing what Presidents have been great or not. Like this raise your hand if you think Lincoln was one of the greates Pres of all time? Heres what you look at. One view he was the worst the only President to split the nation into two and lost the union. One of the best because he helped end slavery. Which issue do you think was the best argument? Although I think Carter looking at his administration was a crook and a blowhard to others I am wrong.

Carter said that Bush is the worst president ever. I think it could easily be said we've never had a good president. There's always critics. The Lincoln question is a good one. He bent the rules as he wanted. He wouldn't allow states to secede from the Union, but he was happy to allow West Virginia to secede from Virginia. He suspended habeas corpus just to lock up (and shut up) those he thought might criticize him. If he wouldn't have had Grant, and if Lee didn't try to invade the North, the South may well have won. Lincoln would have looked like an ***. Heck, McClellan would have likely become president instead of Lincoln for his second term if the North didn't start winning right before the elections. McClellan was all for compromise and negotiations. Things would certainly be different now if that had happened. Carter may not have done much good, but I think he did less bad than our current prez.
As for treason charges, that's BS in my opinion. There's not much more "American" than openly speaking out against one's own government when they feel it's doing a poor job. George Washington and Ben Franklin were traitors. They spoke out and fought against their own government (England).
That reminds me of the whole burning of the flag issue. While I don't agree with burning our flag in protest, I'm all for those people having the right to do it. When I see pictures of Iraqis burning American flags, I think, "Hey, that's great. We gave them freedom and they're using it." What good is freedom of speech without freedom to offend? I like these type of discussions, and hope this one stays civil.

Well Ill say this-I agree with everything you just said. And it does have a lot to do with how things are presented. To use the Lincoln example, there must have been a hundred ways to end slavery. But what if He was after something else? What the Civil War did was give the Federal Gov.MORE power. In other words, you create a "crisis"for everyone to focus on while you take away SOMETHING while they arnt looking.Have you ever noticed when there is a prob.its never solved,we lose rights.

Having served under all presidents since Jimmy Carter, I can say he was definatly a man of "peace". Most would call him internationally "SPINLESS". Although a man of great personal currage, he was not a world leader. Jimmy did good things for the US within the US, but gave away the farm, litterally, internationally. He got great treaties with countries around the world, because he promised we would kiss thier behinds. When Russia was floundering with its Nuclear program and on the verge of collapse, he gave them second life and extended the run of the Iron curtain for another 10 years. He conceded Salt, and set the ground work for Salt II. Where Russia had had a nuclear arsenal that was killing itself, and or all surface/mobile based. We had a sound strategic arsenal in place. Yet, with a 4 to 1 domination in the arena, we conceeded to sacraficing our edge.... to kiss the Soviet behind.

As for the Panama Canal, how many times should you buy a property before its considerd yours? We payed Columbia, and we payed Panama twice for the canal zone, and the rights to the canal. Yet because a hand full of comunist instructors got a couple hands full of students to storm Ft Amador and rebel, with the resulting death of 1, 1, yes 1 student, failing to climb down from storming a gate. We gave Panama the canal back, and removed all American presence from the zone, including its defense forces. I dunno, we only payed Russia 1 time for Alaska, think we should give it back? As for the Luisana Purchase, hell, France got robbed..... and lots of French men died..... And then of course there is that whole Texas, and the South West US, I dunno, I don't think Mexico has been payed ever, and afterall, the majority of the population is hispanic, maybe we should give that back to Mexico. Great Lakes, well couple 100 indian tribes were wipped out or bought off with fur's and beads. Despite modern day success with some reservation casino's I think a few 1000 Native Americans would like a little better land and or a whole pile of money.

Use of the Military, and the military budget. At no other time in US history had the military ever gone MONTHS unpaid. Under Caters budget regime and cost savings, two years running, the country ran out of Money before the end of August, and in being physcally responsible, there were no continuation acts voted in. So we went unpaid, 1 year we were not paid till from the 30th of August through the 15th of Oct before the budget was "ratified". Yes, in the end we got all our "due" money. But try telling utilities and Land lords that your waiting on the US government to pay you. You have to remember back in those days an E3's pay was about $460 a month before taxes, currently, an E3 makes $1534.

It wasn't until Uncle Ron got elected that the pay system started a big turn around to compensate military for service.
Jimmy stands heads and shoulders above Clinton, his smile is/was genuine, his handshake firm, and he truely ment to do the right thing for the people of this country. His advisors failed him, and a lack of a spine internationally crippled him.......

My Opinion.

As for the political parties, it is absolutly hillarious how far each of the parties has come from its founding planks.

The Democrats, modern day peoples party, the "liberal" party, the "socialist" party, was founded on the principles of peoples rights and the rights of the states to self government. The Democratic party believed the fedral government should have minimal control over anything involving the people of the state, including trade, taxes and even the establishment of "Armies" or a militia.

The Republican party on the other hand stood for fedral control, minimizing state controls, consolidating the "army" under the Union of the entire country and abolishing state militias.

The Democrates were for minimal government and maximum peoples right to self destiny, and the Republicans were for the bueracracy.
Today, the Democratic party believes it has the answere to what we should do with all our money (as in your and mine) and the Republican party, although equally bloated with self importance, stands for the prosperous and the freedom to succeed and or fail on your own. Ironic.....

Good Ole Boy Jimmy

is the father of modern terrorism. 9/11 is ultimately his fault because he did not support our ally in the Middle East, the Shah of Iran in 79.

Also, there is an unwritten rule that previous presidents don't comment on their sucessors. Jimmy Carter looks for every opportunity to break that rule.

Jimmy Carter is a communist sympathizer.

8) carter could have possibly ended modern terrorism at the beginning, but he chose not to. rather than tell iran to give back our people, or start losing assests, like military bases, power plants, etc. carter tried to negotiate the return of our people. sorry mr carter but islamofacists dont respond to talking, they respond to force and strength, as well as strength of character. that is the reason they returned the hostages when reagan took office, because they knew that reagan would send in the military and destroy everything they could get their hands on. were it me in the white house when the US embassy was attacked, i would have given the iranians a deadline. return our people by x date, and nothing much bad happens to your country. dont return them and we make iran a huge parking lot. to show my resolve in this matter i am going to order an air strike on a military target. you know how to reach me. do so soon or lose assets.

Carter should be tried for treason because this latest remark is not his first. He was on foreign soil when he critizised the current administration and since we are at war that can be considered treason. No different than when Hanoi Jane gave aid and comfort to the enemy. Carter is a discrace to the office even before the currant administration was elected to office. Carter never met a dictator he didn't like and admire, look back to the ***-kissing he did with Hugo Chavez, Castro and that little pervert that runs N. Korea. Carter hates America because it is not a socialist or communist government. Perhaps he should live in N. Korea since he thinks its such a great place.

Jimmy was the weakest and most bumbling fool who ever called the White House "home". I clearly remember his 21% mortgage rates (it was cheaper to buy houses with credit cards.) and the way he blithered through all things involving foreign policy. Everybody knew that Jimmy's friendly smile and his handshake meant that Jimmy was in your pocket....he was NOT a negotiator, he was a GIVER.....except to the U.S. military.

And with all at his disposal, he still couldn't keep his drunken brother from pissing in public. President....my a%#.

Scott, it's not a question of whether he should EXPECT to be held accountable. It's a question of how much public embarrassment to the office a President should allow. Do you think a President's brother pissing on the White House lawn could be considered an embarrassment to the office? Do you also think that any President with the stones he was born with might find a way to put a stop to it?

By the way, I have two brothers, and if either of them were so inclined, I believe I could break him of the habit.

Bush is a stand up guy

I would like to say I believe history will fair very well for Bush.
He has stayed on point even after he has been beaten up by the liberals
and the liberal press non stop , has Bush ever done anything right ?
I think america is being sold a load of crap, has the other side ever offered an different openion ? has the news ever offered an honest story
without leaning in the other dirrection ?

When someone tryies to sell me something and if the first words out of thier mouth is this product is stupid or worthless (my thoughts ! another snake oil salesman)

If someone tryies to sell me something and says you have a good product but we have something that has been upgraded and can be of great benefit to you then you have my ear.

Shouldnt the other side say what Bush is doing has merit but we have something different to offer and let us explain.

Question have you ever heard this before.

No

Instead we get non stop bombardment of Bushes stupidity.

Shouldnt it be Bush has somethin to offer but we think we have a better plan.

Lets work together?

Have you ever heard that from the other side.

No

Has the press ever printed both sides and you make up your own oppinion.

No

If your party and press are offering only criticism without offering another
idea or opinion perhaps we are not getting our moneys worth in Washington or our daily news.

Bushes shaws bad right now only because of the beatin from the press andhere I want to say to all be carfull of the press undermining the
government in one dirrection or another ( This is whats going on now )

History will be kind to Bush and not so to Carter.

Gregg

The news is by far one of the worst places to get any story that has anything to do politically. My sister-in-law has been over to Iraq for a year and is soon to be going back. She was of no suprise that when she got back it was nothing but the worst on the news and has NEVER shown the good that we have done over there. She admits it was not the most planned of things but supports the cause over there. Of course, how can you plan for someone who is willing to kill themselves because of the belief in their religion is the only right religion. She saw the good in what was being done. The countless number of schools built, people who were starving before the war were finally getting a meal. The smile on the childrens faces as she went and sat down beside them and played with their dog or past candy out to a crowd of kids. The good things have never been publicized by the media here in America. CNN stands for Communist News Network, and although they somewhat try Fox still has some spin in their zone. It is hard to blame what is going on in Iraq on Bush no matter how much the Dem's or the media try to portray things that way. Anyone can look at the past of those countries in the Middle East and know that it was a time bomb waiting to happen. There were many more lives wasted in the years in which the Tyrant Sadam Hussein was in power. Millions died while he was there and would have continued to die while in power. We lost many soldiers lives in Kosova but yet those have never and would never be discussed by the media because it would have cast a bad light on President Clinton. This is just one of the many ways in which the media bias is spun. Sorry need to get off my soapbox here.

Doug
