well it started out to be a good day
we got to the truck pull
mod class was 2nd and i was the 1st puller
it ran mint
took 1st place by 14 feet
so i was pumped
than heavy class was up
so i went out and hooked up and off i went
it seemed like it was my day i was flying down the truck
i was watching my rpm's and i glanced down at the oil gauge
it was at 0 o **** and i hit the kill button
it stopped and i didnt know how bad it was
or how long it was at 0 it was running 7500
so we pulled it back to the pit's and it didnt wanna turn over very good
but i thought well maybe the battery was getting low
so i hooked up the charger and i got it to run
but it had a knocking sounds
so i killed it
loaded it up and a 2hr drive home
we pulled the motor and got it on the stand
and there was alot of metal in the pan
all the mains look good
but 3 rod bearings and shoot
on is so bad it has become a aprt of the crank
the impact couldnt even get one bolt out of the rod
we had to use a bracked bar and the bolt was bent
so we are done for the season
witch sucked cause we had a good chance at the point's
truck has been running great but the racin
o and why did i lose oil psi?
well i run a dual remote oil filter
and the lines are push on and dont require and clamps
and i ran it all year last year not a sinlge issue
but one line blew off and i left all the oil on the track
after the pull i was tlaking to a few guys and they said they saw oil spraying out and tryed to stop me but i was moving
but i still took 2nd place on that run
so it was a bitter sweet day for me
a bit depressing but i guess i have some extra time to get it ready for next year
the bad thing is i wanted to up grade so stuff for next year but since i have to by new rods and try to fix the crank i hope a 10 will clean it up
and it is has not been turned yet so that should be ok
well i am gonna go lay down i feel sick

Sorry to hear about the motor probs and I know the horse has left the barn, but for a 15 lbs oil switch and a bosch relay, you could have a low oil press shutdown system. And it would cost less than $30!

Sorry to hear of the bad luck there Jesse.:( Like Richard said though a low oil pressure kill can be done for a few bucks and is well worth it. Hope you get it back together and runnin like a top again. Congrats on the top finishes.

Sorry to hear it. It is a sickness. I too have had that feeling. How about a rod through the block on the warmup lap at Laguna Seca. Car leaves the pit, never see it again for half hour. Tow it 4 hrs home. Not even a lap. I did not build the engine . I still got paid; bittersweet ,yes. Tres...

but i am gonna check on a set of new rods tomorro
now i am just kicking around going oliver's or what i was running
and yea they seemed fine howards billt
or maybe even alum rods
and i might be able to get it back together for the last 2 pulls
i got 5 weeks
so well see
but on the other hand it would be nice to take my time and
rebuild it
i am gonna sleep on it
yea i thought about doing a low psi switch
and i know kick myself in the azz for not doing it

Sorry to hear that Jesse, it hurts when you put so much into it and its workin soooo good.:(

Could you just turn the crank and replace the damaged rods? Might could get her going in a couple of weeks. edit: sorry saw your other thread in the engine tech section

I haven't had one blow up on me yet.....knock on wood.....but I have had a couple blown up FOR me by former freinds.

i think i might just go back to a single filter on the block
less stuff to go wrong
and i am not shure if a dual filters help or?
i change oil about every 6-8 hook's anyhow
and there is enof room if i wanna run a bigger filter

i am not shure if it need to be welded?
i hope a 10 thou on the rods will clean it up
but if i need to go more is it just better to have it welded?
and the crank did get a bit warm there is a lil dis color next to the rod journal
it isnt very bad
i will take a few pic's of the carnage and get them on here
that might give ya a better idea than me trying to explane

If crank journals have turned colors, look for cracks. As far as turning undersize or welding up, strength is basically the same either way, just easier to sell stuff that's std-std. You might look into Crower rods, haven't heard of them having the problems that Olivers have had.
