ky mustang, (Randy) invited me to go with him to his race, I was very impressed with his car, unfortunately I received a phone call from home and had to leave early. I had the chance to see a few qualifying runs and he was very consistent 5.60's at 122mph in the 1/8. I really enjoyed myself up to the time I had to leave.
And I have to say, that I have heard about a wife being a crew member, his wife was great, she was his crew. 8)

Now Randy, let's hear how you finished.

Your gonna make her head swell now David  . I broke out in the 4 th round with a 5.62 @ 123. The car seems to like the bigger tires better  . Glad to have you down you will have to come back when you can stay longer

I was running a 32 x 14 goodyear d1 on 12" rims . A buddy of mine had some 32 x 16 d1's he gave me from last year. I bought some of the hole shot 15 " wheels http://www.holeshotwheels.com/. The car picked up about .02 in 60' and its transferring weight a lot better now. Its not perfect like I want yet though

Randy, do the super soft D1's rip-up/ocean wave like crazy across the tread surface or is the waving not to bad?

They do a little worse than the d 5's I ran before. I talked to a goodyear dealer at Memphis and he said the d-1 needed very little burn out , as soon as you see smoke they are ready. He recommended that I go to a d6 compound though. My best 60' so far is with the 14" d-5' though 1.22 vs /1.23 with the 16" d1's keep in mind they are used though (.180 tread depth). I got about 115 passes out of the d1 14 x 32 until they really started going down hill although the car never really hooked hard on them.

Randy, I have been running the Goodyear 2556's(17x33)D6 compound on 16" wide Aluma stars. I was getting 1.17-1.18 60' times when new. The car was also oversprung & shocks to tight making the car porpois off the line. I wish I had a fresh set now that I have sorted a couple of chassis issues out just to see what the difference would be. I have 85 passes on them now.

I am looking at possible switching to a Goodyear 2053's when I put the hemi in due to the amount of torque I will be gaining. They are the same as the 2556's except they have a stiff sidewall & a D-4A compound.

I hate to hear you broke out, how did the older fellow that Wayne was there with do? Was the dropping temperature the factor for your break out?

Well, got to go cut fire wood.

It seemed like the track was coming and going lots of cars jumping around on 60 ' times. Don ended up 3rd place , Wayne tried to get him to switch lanes and try to bump a dragster into the left lane, but he did not do it. That bump in the left lane is rough on dragsters and light cars including mine  Its really sad, a new track surface and already got that bad of a bump.

Never really liked Goodyears because of the old myth that they "always" loose their rubber compound's oils and "dry out" just before you reach 1/2 tread depth. I have seen it happen on two cars with Goodyears.......but "two" doesn't equal "always".

On the other hand from what I have seen both Hoosiers & M/T's compound oils (hard or soft compound) seem to last quite a long time (tread depth wise) before they dry out.
