I tried to find info on this before here & everyone thought I was crazy but I was able to use the FE type torque converter with the large pilot diameter with a 79 model 460. This engine came from the factory with the small pilot diameter converter that reaches up farther into the crank. I wanted to use my 2300 stall that is large pilot & measured several times, assembled crank, flywheel and converter out of the truck, then finally assembled it all in the truck & it worked fine.

Thought maybe this could help someone.

I heard of it working before , but usually not the othe way because factory 1.375 snout are long and bottom out, probably can shorten and make ring. I have seen aftermarket conv. with a step pilot with both , probably made the 1.375 shorter. Thanks for you find. I am sure it will help someone someday..., ED
