Tore,

I made 882 Hp and 727 Tq with my 533 CID engine using the FRPP SCJ heads. This was on an accurate DTS dyno. These heads are a "brother" to the P-51 heads, however I get slightly better flow # with the P-51 heads.

Anyway, that engine wasn't anything exotic, just your basic bracket racing engine. No dry sump, no vacuum pump, single Dommy on gasoline, Lem's roller camshaft & etc. It boils down to 1.654 Hp/CID and 1.364 Tq/CID.

So taking those numbers, times 557 CID gives you 921 Hp and 760 Tq. I suspect that is obtainable with the P-51 heads on a really good engine, with 14 :1 compression ratio.

Hope this helps,

do you need an aftermarket block with those horsepower numbers?

I read that article Charlie I saw that was a 533ci and the results were very inpressive. I was just curious what a larger engine might produce. Tore

My motor doesn't quite make Charlie's numbers, but my pocket ported (by Charlie) P-51 headed 545 made 852 hp and 765 lbft. It is 14:1 on alky. I have an offy tunnel ram on it and the concensus here is that the intake is costing hp. My builder reckons a sheet metal intake would enable over 900 hp.

Hey uncle Charlie,

you and I had Talked about the Charlie Max effort P51's and Lem and I have talked about a 580' build...would that set-up with only 12 to1 cr..with a port matched weiand TR..and a Custom Lem roller cam.be capable of making over 900hp? and still be able to run on pump gas say 93 with maybe some mix in it?

Curiuos Minds!!

thanks,

~Russ

Kurt ,

Those are some damn nice #s for what your running ! Because I have planned about the same build, But with a 4.530" bore x 4.500" stroke and some Max effort P-51's that should flow in the hood of 420cfm or so.. and about 12 to 1 or so CR. and had thought about using a Weiand Port matched T-Ram and a set of 1050 dommy's on it.. an .800" lift Roller cam.

For an occational ride on the street to the local cruise in...and then some track time once a month or so? But it seems to get the HP level I want , I'll have to bump up the CR some and scratch the Race gas and 93 mix..

I maybe getting in over my head anyway with the T-Ram as its been 20 years since I ran one on the street anyway...I may have to op out for a Victor and one Of QFT new 1250 cfm Carbs...and call it good at that..

I couldnt keep up with the Young Men on this site anyway...Hell I'd just like rubbing elbows with the guys over a few beers... But I need something to take to there Track and at least race....Because I'am not a good spectator !! LOL....

So I'am still saving...and thinking and planning.. They say good things come to those who wait..So we'll see ! LOL

BTW, Do you have a dyno print out you could post...I'd like to see the TQ curve on your build ??

Thanks,

Russ :)

Dave,

This stuff is easier said than done. Sometimes we get wrapped up in the "talk". Bottom line is,,,,I still don't think so.

I don't understand why you're wanting to bust 900 Hp with pump gas. Why the pump gas?

Charlie,

I think alot of it has to do with bragging rights? I dont much care about that as much is getting the most bang for the buck..and the motor staying together

But as much as my Project will be driven on the street..I really dont care if I have to run a mix for fuel or race gas on an occational street run... And Hell if Race fuel gets to be to much...I'll just run it off of Shine!!

Guys how much more HP do you think he would have made if it were a set of Flat Top pistons in this pkg?

Pump gas for the occasional street cruise inns and such. Had thought about getting my 3500 (est.) pound truck in the low nines. guess wont happen, oh well.
Already planned on getting A460's, maybe wont need a head that good on pump gas. Just thinking of future growth
Just trying to get as much bang for the buck with the 588 I'm building. I am not really sure how much is needed to get in the low nines. I would like to go as low as possible and still be able to fire it up on the occasional sunday.
MPG is obviously out the window,
