So I have my favorite country radio station on and im winding down from my Friday. In the background I hear what sounds like a rap song...

Im like...wait a minute...did the station drift? No, I have a digital tuner....

Well sure enough...evidently there is now a country/rap song. Idk bout you but I think country has gotten way sugar coated in the past year or so, I am all but completely turned off to mainstream country music anymore. Long gone are they days of Johny Cash, Waylon, C.W. McCall, Tex Ritter.

I can not stand rap as it is, but to be mixing it into my country just isnt cool.

The song I heard is calld "Ride Through The Country" by Colt Ford.....

Ugh I cant stand it....

I think country has sucked for quite some time. Rap has sucked thoroughly for several years running. Alternative is dead. The record labels have no $$$ after Napster and such yet somehow this overly-processed garbage keeps getting churned out and pawned off as something "good". Right now I like Two Gallants and my MySpace song is "Seed of Memory" by Terry Reid. Just not a lot of good stuff out there unless you dig through a bunch of garbage. That newer Kid Rock song about summertime... I'm afraid I'll go on some terrible killing spree if I have to hear it any more.

I CAN'T STAND THAT NEW kid rock song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean how many songs is the guy going to rip off????

I hear "home sweet home Alabama" and "Werewolves of London" in one f-in song.

The sad part is the guy in making a lot of money because it is being played on rock and country stations.

It is an injustice to both country and rock.

Can't stand Kid rock either. He's off key and his music is 100% derivative.

That said, he got his start in a club here in Toledo about 15 minutes from my house. He has a really dedicated following here and in detroit and is the most regular guy in that business. He is never cagey when interviewed and remembers everyone who ever helped him out.

I kinda respect the man even if I can't actually listen to him do more than speak.

Newer country music makes my skin crawl, candy coated pop crap. Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney couldn't hold Waylon's jockstrap.

On the non-country side, I've been listening to Kings of Leon, decent sort of Southern Rock sound. They get a little too whiney alternative, but they're the best thing I've heard lately.

Pretty much all music has gone to hell here of late, I listen to pretty much anything, but the new country pretty much sucks.

I just fill the cd player with what I like and go on.

So there are two death row inmates scheduled to die on the same day. On the day before the executions, the warden visits one of them and says, "You know you're scheduled to die tomorrow at noon.....Do you have a request for a last meal?"

The inmate answers, "Yessir, I'd like fried chicken like Momma made, garlic mashed potatoes, sweet corn, and a raspberry cobbler for dessert."

The warden says, "That's the way it'll be, then. Do you have any other final requests?"

The inmate says, "Yessir, I'd like to hear Tim McGraw sing "Live like you were dyin'" one more time before I die."

The warden says, "That's the way it'll be then." He steps to the next cell and asks the other condemned man, "Do you have a special request for a last meal?"

This inmate says, "Yessir, I'd like a slab of beef and inch and a half thick, a baked potato with sour cream, sweet peas, and a big slice of apple pie for dessert."

The warden says, "That's the way it'll be then. Do you have any other final requests?"

The inmate replies, "Yessir........Kill me first."

Where you been bro? There was a country rap song out 4 or 5 years ago! It sucked then too. Country has sucked for many many years.

I'll give you a tip for some good tunes. On the internet, there is a station from way over in Freedom, CA (on the coast), called KPIG They've been around for 20-30 years I think. They broadcast, but also play streaming over the net. KPIG.COM. Give it a listen. You will hear alt-country, old country, southern rock, a bit of surf, some blues, bluegrass, etc. There are quite a few new songs they play that you will never hear anyplace else, that are actually quite good.

Here are a few bands I've found that I dig:

Cross Canadian Ragweed (not the newest, it's country pulp, anything before is good)

Split Lip Rayfield (speed-grass)

Reverend Horton Heat (rockabilly)

Robert Earl Keen (countryish-comical songs)

Govt Mule (Guitarist Warren Haynes rocks)

Derek Trucks band

But serioulsy, give KPIG.COM a try... At least you will hear some pigs squal.

C'mon now, get off Kid Rock's back. They tried using his original name, but "Kid no talent" didn't look as good on the album cover!

i am going to leave that alone
i have been trying to stay away from politics
way to much stress

i have to admit i kinda liked kid rock at first but i was
like 15 when he came out into main stream
but now i try to listen to him and i think

he thinks he is rap and rock and country
i think he needs a shower and possibly some med's

i have a good solution for this thou
at home i have sirus so i can listen to what i want

i just listen to the ford rumble

We had a few good country stations until clear channel shook things up around here. We had 4 country stations at one time, 3 local and one national. Only 2 of them were even half way good. Then when local radio got all shook up we lost one of the 2 good country stations I liked and now we have Don Imus in the morning. :x Also that particular country station had a thing that every Friday night they would play good 'ol southern rock, and then on weekend nights they would play classic country, the 2 shows seemed to be pretty popular, but I guess not enough for clear channel.

At least we have a real classic rock station back. 8)
