460 build progress

Well I finally get to post here in th build section.

Feels good!

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone that did help with all my questions over the past couple of years or so.

Thanks Paul, Brian, and all the others, there were a lot, which is a testament to this site and how great it is.

Just a quick rundown on the part used:

D1VE block, .030 over, cleaned up, new cam bearings

460 crank .010 under all journals Rotating assem will be internally balanced.

Eagle SIR rods (Press fit, my machinist will hone for floating and oil hole)

Speed Pro L2443 pistons w/dome

cam is Comp 294S dur. is 248 @ .050 LSA-110

Heads DOVE C ported by me with all your help, came out pretty good if I do say so myself! HAHA

Manley SS valves in/ex 2.25/ 1.74

Harland Sharp Rollers, 3/8 pushrods

will be running a port o sonic w/ proform 950 to start

MSd billit dist w/ 7Al box

rest of car -

turbo action trans w/8" converter (Don't have the stall spec in front of me but think it is 4 0r 4500, reverse manual with all work done in Jacksonville).

4.57 spool w/31 spline strange axles 16x33 good years out back, I know they are probably a bit large for my application, but they were free.

Anyway the block was dropped at my machinist and will be ready this Friday, so I'll be ready to start building. Paul, I would like to talk with you next week about this build and what you think I'd need for an oil pump and drive for this project, sound good?

I know this isn't a large scale stroker motor but it feels like it when I get finished putting it together.

Anybody have an idea what the HP/TQ/ET I will get out of this?

Oh the car is 2750# (Maybe a little lighter with port work)

On a side note this car did go 11.55 best with mild street 460 and a hydraulic cam
with the throttle opening to only 3/4 (not my intentionat the time) I found the gas peddle bottomed out against the firewall, so I think the car left a lot on the table, when you reached say 5500 RPM, the car would nose over and just level off on the speed.

Anyway thanks for all the help, I'll post some pics of the build here.

made some progress

Did a trial assembly and clayed the VP clearance, results Ex- .345" Int- .250

I am using a comp cams off the shelf grind for now, but looks like I'll have room for growth with a roller combo at a later time.

Just got my block and rotating assembly back from the local machine shop.

J&J Balancing in Jupiter Florida (Just a plug for John T.)

He's a great guy to do business with. Won't steer you wrong.

Now all I need to do is order bearings/gaskets to assemble! (Clean everything first of course.

any comments are welcome, just a junior member with lots of enthusiasm at this point.

will keep anyone interested updated as it goes.....

I would never use a 294S again . I am pulling the one out of mine and putting M-6250-C460 back in it in couple weeks I lost about forty hp compared to the C460 cam . Unfortianetly , ford discontinued this cam so they are hard to find , got mine from Lem Evans but he said it was his last one . Having to adjust the valves every month or so isnt woth the lack of power of the 294S . I would contact Lem or Charlie Evans about picking a good cam for your combo . Sorry still mad about the bad advice from comp techline about the 294S .

My combo is

71 lincoln 466 (.030 overbore)

speedpro L2404-F30

reconditioned rods

arp proseries wavelock rod bolts

zoom double roller

comp 294S ( soon to be C460 again )

DOVE-C heads heavily ported on exhaust portatched intake

2.245/1.8 stainless valves

wiend stealth 8012

QFT Q series 950

MSD 8580 distributor

That 294S camshaft likes being run WAY advanced. Normally 8° advanced from split overlap.

Sounds like I'll have more of a challenge with this cam, I chose this to start out with, and later change to a roller, 8 degrees from split overlap? I'm not sure I understand what you are saying, is that the same as 8 degrees from straight up timing?

Sorry to hear you had a rough time with your cam BBF Ranger, did you install it straight up or advanced like rmcomprandy was saying?

By the way, what is Subbed? (Bruno)

I installed as the cam card said 4 degrees advance that was ground into the cam , with my Zoom timing chain set at 0 it came in at 4 1/2 degrees engine builder said couldnt really get much closer .

Maybe I should pull timing cover and set crank gear to 4 degrees advance to see what it does . Probly wont though as I have the C460 now . When I had the C460 it ran way better than with 294S .

If rmcomprandy says to set at 8 advance I would try that
