After replacing my speedometer cable on the back of my instrument panel, I found out that the needle on my instrument panel is not staying at the zero mark. It seems to be pointing closer to a 90 degree angle through the middle of the odometer reading. I am pretty certain my instrument panel/odometer is from an earlier 1980s ford.

My 79 f150 needle bounced all over, I thought it was the cable or gear. I had to replace the cluster for other reasons and afterwards, my speedo has been great! solid and accurate. I'm guessing the speedometer in that cluster was bad along with other issue that caused me to swap it out originally.
I just used a GPS/speedometer app on my phone for my speedometer until the cluster swap.
