Off the cuff, unless the engine has pretty damn high compression I would immediately suspect 10 degrees initial timing advance as having at least something to do with the overheating. I have a low compression 468 in a chevelle, and once I got the initial where it was happy, 23 degrees, I CAN'T make it overheat at idle. Wrong brand I know, but same theory.

To the best of my knowlege,I am the only one that correctly built reverse flow 429 pumps.And I built them for unit body cars.AKA the short pump.You could always look inside.If it looks odd...
HI he states he put in a new march serpentine kit on it . so Maybe he has the wrong pump and need the reverse pump?
He hasn't posted since the 25 July so maybe its fixed or something??
