new motor / Oil LEAK

1479 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  airford1
I just finished installing a 545 motor that that I had built 9 months ago,(you know how the best layed plans take alittle longer) and when I get it up to temp and run the RPMs up it leaks from what looks to be the from pan seal and oil is leaking from the back. My guess is the rear main.

I dont have a pvc or a vacumn on the crank case, could this be part of the problem?

Damn I didn't think to look for this when it was on the dyno. Live and learn.

Oil pressure port sealed? Mine is leaking a little and from under the truck looks to be coming from the pan/rear main but hunted it down to leaking fitting on the back of block.
How is the engine vented, I use A pvc and circle track style vent on left side valve cover, usually if crankcase pressure is real high it can push the dipstick out, x2 on making sure you accurately identify the origination point for any oil leak.

When I first saw the oil on the floor I thought the motor was not venting because I still had the pvc valve in the left valve cover and not connected to anything.

I removed the pvc valve and have just the open vent in both valve covers.

The oil pressure drops alittle ( 6 to 8 lbs) when the rpm gets into the 5000and up range, leads me to beleive that I have a windage problem around the pump.
