Good idea in thoery but too many moving parts to wear out, Once the links start to wear do you adjust thing to not shut the valve all the way or not open it all the way. Seems like it would be short lived at best.

I actually see that design capable of some serious r`s. With oil control technologies, this system I believe will take off. I`m game, but costs and machine work might be out of reach. The cam profiles are limitless! Say bye bye to roller cams and the "king of the hill" title. Ramps?, ha, gimme a lil more eccentric.

I would say that a spring is probably more efficient than you would think when it comes to absorbing, storing and then releasing energy back to the valvetrain. Sure some of that energy is lost because it's converted to heat but those loses are probably minimal.
