I am new here so I hope I am posting this is the right place. If I am posting in the wrong place I apologize and ask the mods to move this to the correct forum.

Ok gentlemen, I have a 2000 F350 4X4 cab and chassis with a ZF 5 speed (4 speed with overdrive) and a V10 engine. I want to remove the V10 and install a carbureted 460. I have done a bit of reading on here and I believe this is doable. I realize there will be some fabrication needed for things like motor mounts and exhaust system etc.

My first question is am I understanding right, will a 460 bolt up to my 2000 ZF 5 speed?
Which year model 460 do I need to start trying to find? I am looking to find a rebuildable complete 460 so it'll handle whatever I throw at it. I use the truck mostly for pulling heavy loads like a small dozer.

I am just starting to scratch the surface of this project so I am sure there will be many more questions to come. I thank you gentlemen for taking the time to read my post/thread and helping with this project. I appreciate your input and advice.

A 460 and V-10 bellhousings are going to be different. Find a 460 that comes with a ZF 5, and that should give you something to start with.

I believe the 460 ZF-5’s were used from 88-97. I kno 92-97, but I think earlier. The problem might be the bellhousings don’t separate from the trannies.

Thank you for your reply gentlemen I appreciate it. I will need to check to see if my bell housing can be removed from my ZF5 tranny. My transfer case is married to my tranny so if the bellhousing can not be removed I will probably need to find a 460 that comes with a ZF5 tranny with a married TC in the year model range you recommended. Am I thinking right about this?

The bellhousings don’t come of most auto trannies or the ZF-5. Some people cut them off and make custom bells. If you can find a 460 ZF-5, I think a 205 will bolt on or you could use whatever t-cause came with the tranny

Thank you lonco, I am learning this about the bellhouses LOL. Do you have any recommendations on the year model truck would be my best bet to search for? I really appreciate your input on this.

I’m not sure, but some might have mechanical clutch linkages and newer maybe hydraulic. Sorry I don’t know years, but all years should bolt up. Clutch diameters might be different, but bolt pattern never changed, as far as I know
