What is funny is we never screw with it much anymore. But that was why I used to use System 1 Filters, so you could just take it apart, clean it and go back together....

I bought the Summit SUM-900510 oil filter cutter for $38.95. Seams to work quickly and easily.

We have a great big pipe cutter that my Dad bought from Harbor Freight that is handy for this sort of thing. You can just clamp it in a vice and turn the filter to cut off the end, it works well.

Like Cale said, get ya Crescent wrench and it'll open that System one filter right up, and the filter will last ten years easy. You'll inspect it more often, cause it'll pretty convenient. And if you add up ten years of regular filters and bandaids, you won't be far off!
