I have a old set of aluminum CJ heads not the SCJ heads from a older crate motor. I am doing a new build and was wondering what kind of hp I can get from these without any modifications. I have not been successful in finding the flow rates of these heads.

Do you have any details on how you may build the engine? Size, cam, manifold, compression ratio?

Just wanted to know if these heads would any good for 550-600hp. I am going to start another post and I will put what parts I already have and what I am putting in

Hello Harry,
600 HP from the original A-429 CJ heads is easily done even as cast. Ford rated the early 514 crate engines @ around 600 HP. Some locals to me tuned one to 630 HP on dyno. They just tried some carbs, fuel, and different timing. That was with the Ford roller cam 255°/.655 lift.

A lot of growth potential too. The Edelbrock 514 mule used to develop the Victor from the last century LOL, made 738 HP with these heads. Crane 266/276 .735 110 LC.

Used to know a guy with a 71 Fastback that dipped into the high 9's now and then with these heads on a 514 old school 4.140 X 4.440 and Dom/Victor.
