Yes. They do come out. That is how you tell if it is a 1.76 or a 1.82 stock gearset. The length is different. They are a little over 12" long.

Input shaft is supposed to be a little over 12", if its only 3 somethings broken! Now if you meant that you pulled it out 3" and stopped, thats different, yes the input shaft ban be removed without any harm, just push iy back in, dont force it, may have to twist back and forth as you push, but again dont force it there are sealing rings on it that can be broken and if the thrust washer drops down at the rear of shaft you wont be able to push it in all the way. Hope I didnt confuse you.

bad thing is now Bruno that you pulled it out is that you have to take it apart and stand it on end to make sure you get the shaft back in with the thrust washer in the right place.... as for you having a 1.8 low gear you DON"T need it that low a 1.76 or 1.74 is way enough, if you get it down low you will incure the Tire violence like some of the guy's are experiencing.... with the 1.76 to 1.65 or so it kills some of the massive torque on the line and lets it stick and haven't seen it hurt the 60's either....

Bruno if it went back in great but sometime the thrust washer slips it is between the sun gear and in the planitary if it slips you might be able to stand it on end and slide a small rod thru the pump and try and center it so the shaft will go back in. if not them apart it comes...
sorry to scare you!
