im sure all of us here has had to deal with the 18 year old know it all "master mechanic" at the part store. went in for some simple tune up parts and while i was there i got a price on some new calipers for a 98 explorer, (which i happened to mention that they were for my galaxie) and after a couple min. of him giving me a speech about how i could not put them on there and my car never could have disc brakes anyway, a little light went off in my head.

so then i asked for a water pump for a 69 beetle :D. after 5 min. of looking on the computer he dug out some books and after ten min. with his head in the books the manager (who knows me pretty good) asked him what he was looking for. the kid told him and the manager just started laughing his butt off, asked who it was for the kid pointed to me. the manager saw me with a grin from ear to ear. then the manager asked the kid what he did to **** me off. after everyone was done laughing the manager let the kid in on the joke. just thought you guys would enjoy that.

I confused a "master mecanic" myself the other day I got a parts list from a guy to switch my 62 Falcon over to disk brakes 87/89 Nissan Rotors 81 89 Chevy Caviler calipers and pads with 62 Falcon bearings and seals. he asked me if I had that big a shop that I could put 3 cars in at once and still have room for toolboxes. I just said Yep I have a huge shop and walked out

I bought a rebuilt starter for my truck from kragen. Took it out of the box and put it in my truck. I tried to start it and all it did was grind. I took it back out took it back. They put it on the tester and then told me nothing was wrong. I said well on the tester there is no load. The kid that was testing the starter told me again that it was fine. He told me my belt was too tight and it was causing my problem. He was also a UTI graduate. They gave me another starter after i talked to someone else. I put that one in and its been fine.

Next time tell him you want to supersize it. I swear they get their employees from the same applicant pool. One time I was at a Stuckey's buying candy for the kids (GooGoo Clusters to be specific) and I grabbed 2 and brought them up to the counter. The girl went to ring them up and got confused. She said, this one says 50 cents but the other one says 2 for a dollar. She had to ask the manager to help her ring it up. Seriously, true story. I couldn't even laugh, I was so dumbfounded.

Went into Auto Zone and bought one of the slip on steering wheel covers for my dually. Handed it to the kid at the register, he rings it up and says "Gonna put that on your sterring wheel" I just looked at him and said "Nope, I'm going to play frisbee with it!"

Here's your sign!

I try to cut them some slack, I'd probably ask people about their rides when they buy parts, too. Unless like mentioned they try to be smarter than thou. I do feel a little sorry when they have to deal with a bunch of idiot mexicans who want to argue about the price on parts, and will probably just end of wrapping a roll of duct tape around whatever is broken. I saw a minivan the other day that had three black steelies and one lowrider wheel on the front. Also had a big chrome resonator exhaust tip sticking out the back.
Before I go in for parts, I look the part up on the website, which usually will tell you if it's in stock or not. Then I just go in and give them a part number. Saves a lot of hassle.

I knew I was in the presence of "genius" when I went to Napa for a replacement clutch kit for a totally stock 88 Mustang GT - after telling the "genius" what I wanted, he responded by asking me if it was an automatic, or standard shift - WTF!

Haha, I had that happen too!!

One day, I unfortunately walked into an AutoZone and layed a caliper on the counter. The person asked what kind of vehicle the alternator was for.

They are everywhere. We were having problems with my wifes 06 Mustang GT 5 speed stick so it had to get towed to the dealership. They called and said that the automatic transmission was setting off the code. After an *** chewing on the phone she went and had it towed to a different dealership.
