Hard for me to see it very well in the picture. Could it possibly be from being balanced at the factory? It's opposite the dowel.

If it isn't causing a stress riser (can't tell from the pic) and it ran fine before, it should be ok I'd say.

Cam Gear

Is this for an all out race engine? If so I noticed one thing you may want to change. You should drill the cam & cam gear for an additional dowel 180 degrees from the stock dowel. If you have only one dowel & it fails, then there goes your engine. It's just cheap insurance. I have always run my engines with two dowels That was with a stock type gear & now with my Danny Bee belt drive.

Yes, that is normal.

Some timing chain sets I've used in the past were like that.
