I'm building a 472. Would like to keep the low end on a real budget and build the rest,with hopes of stroking it someday.

I haven't built 460's in years and never messed with roller stuff but I was hoping that on paper I can make my mistakes now. It's going in a 5000 lb mud drag truck. Please feel free to tell me what is not going to work the best, or worse yet... come apart!

RPM range 2500-6500

Stealth intake with demon 850 carb & 10" tci converter

Lower end D1VE Block- Bored + 60- Stock balanced, truck rods w/arp's, speed pro pistons @ 13 to 1 compression, truck rods with arp's. Main & head stud kit.

Heads - C9VE- Exhaust ported, stainless "Jet Flow" valves In-2.250 Ex 1.653
Comp roller springs, retainers & locks, harland sharp 1.70 roller rockers.

Cam -must pull 15' vacuum - Comp solid roller 242/248 @ 50 In lift 657 Ex 664 lobe sep 110

Distributor -per class regulation I need to use something stock or appearing that it is stock. Any suggestions?

Fenderwell exit big tube headers

Anything else special I'll need to run this roller setup? Or low budget improvements? Buying the roller kit from comp.

Your valve size seems a little off. Check out the mad porters (Reincarnation High Performance) pay site for porting info if you plan on doing it yourself. It'll be the best money you've spent on porting. You DEFINITELY need to port the intake as well. There's some good people here (on this site) that do custom vacuum cams as well. I can't say whom as I'm interested in building a motor without restrictions but someone will chime in.

Might wanna just run a good mechanical flat tappet cam and use the money you save on some better con. rods? I'm guessing you're gonna run the #2443nf speed pro pistons, they're strong pistons but very heavy and some better rods may give you more piece of mind. There's alot of guys here that can spec a solid F.T. cam that will work good for you. A custom ground F.T. will be several hundred dollars cheaper than a roller setup. Just something to think about. Didn't realize I was in the wrong section? Rookie move.

OK, I'm changing rockers, rods and probably my whole valve train set up.

The distributor change over sounds scary to me. I'll look in to it more,, and see if I can find more info on it.

Gussies?? I don't know, it's quite a little trip up there for us, and fast truck scare me... I may have to stay down here where it's safe?

McQ,check out the sticky at the top of this forum if you havent already,good info on building a motor.a stock duraspark dizzy will do fine too,just make sure you get it recurved.as far as cams and such talk to scotty aka (the mad porter) he can have you a cam ground for your combo as well as having a site for the diy head porting ,only $25 to join ,best money you can spend ,heres a link to his site http://reincarnation-automotive.com/.

I have had a couple that turned a lot of RPM's, and made a lot of unwarranted noise in my general direction.

I had to trade them in.

This one has full exhaust, doesn't overheat, no vibrations and is always ready to go !!

I'll be keeping her, and no... she's not for sale !!!;)
